Everett PTSA Council 7.3 General Membership Meeting
Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 7pm (Eisenhower MS Library)
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: 7:03pm by President Michelle Nims. Welcome and introductions made.
ATTENDANCE: Quorum met.

Amber Mitchell-Gamber (Special Ed PTSA), Heather Morrow (Cedar Wood ES), Corinne Johanson (Cedar
Wood ES), Georgina Johns (Heatherwood MS), Lillie Yates (North MS), Jenny Forbes (Eisenhower
MS/Special Ed PTSA), Toni Wilson (Forest View ES), Tiffany Davenport (Lowell ES), Alisa Yee (Penny
Creek/Silver Lake ES), Laura Gothro (Heatherwood MS), and Andrea Wells-Edwards (Outreach).
LMS PRESENTATION:
 Information about the new LMS system presented by Jo Anne Buiteweg (Everett Public Schools)
 Jo Anne will go to any PTA meeting if requested to update families
TRAINING – ROLE OF COUNCIL:
 Michelle N. explained the role of a Council within the structure of PTA, role and responsibility of council,
how and why to reach out to council for help
 Handout – visual showing where council fits in the structure of PTA
FINANCIALS & TREASURER’S REPORT:
 The books were available and no claims have been made against the insurance.
 May - August 2013 financials accepted as presented.
2013-2014 BUDGET:
 Laura Peterson motioned to accept 2013-2014 budget as presented with changes. Seconded and Passed.
NEW BUSINESS:








Minutes: May 28, 2013 minutes were accepted with changes.
Standing Rules: 2013-2014 Standing Rules accepted as presented.
Financial Review: 2012-2013 year-end financial review accepted as presented.
School Board Elections: Council hopes to host two Candidate Forums (dates TBD). 2014 is a bond
year.
Officer Requirement: State of Washington and WSPTA Bylaws require each local unit to have a
President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. This will require a change at some local units.
Nominating Committee: Please start recruiting for the 2013-2014 Everett Council Nominating
Committee. We would like to represent the north end and the south end.
Mission/Vision/Goals/Strategic Plan: Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan to stay the same. Council voted
to accept 2013-2014 Goals as presented:
1. Membership: Increase Everett Council wide membership by at least 5% over last year
2. Leadership Training: Offer at least 2 Council led trainings this year (i.e. PTA and the Principal,
Money Matters, etc.)
3. Advocacy: Have a Council representative attend and vote at Legislative Assembly and at least
three council reps attend Focus Day.
4. Shoe Fund: Have at least 2 community organizations donate to the Shoe Fund program
5. Organization: Create job descriptions for all Council Board of Director positions
6. Reflections: Hold a Reflections program training for local unit chairs; have at least 18 local units
participate in the program; hold a district Reflections celebration event.
CRC Office Update: Opening date has been pushed back a little. No new date has been announced yet.
Everett Council has signed the contract and is waiting for the school board to approve and sign.




Attendance Incentive: Council will give away one “Early Bird Convention Registration” to local unit with
most attendances between September and March. All attendees will be put into a raffle for a chance to
win. For example, if Forest View Elementary has 3 people come to every meeting (6 dates), they will go in
to the raffle 18 times. Additionally, attendees that come to the April and May meetings will go into a raffle
for a gift card.
Training Update: Saturday, September 21 is the next Region Training including PTA and the Law
(Arlington). There will be two PTA and the Law classes in October.
Principals’ Tea: Council will not be hosting a Principals’ Tea this year. Local units are encouraged to
individually thank their principals. Council will be attending the May Superintendent’s Leadership Team
Meeting to thank all school district staff.
Everett Special Ed PTSA Update: Thanks for all of your support. 2nd Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser
will be held sometime in November. More info to follow.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:








Banquet: May 28th at the Holiday Inn (new location). Possibly holding a silent auction or raffle as well.
More info to follow.
Communications: Weekly emails have begun. Please let Laura P. know if you want to add anyone to the
distribution list. Website is an excellent resource and will be continually updated.
Advocacy: Survey has been sent out. This year’s Legislative Assembly agenda is still in progress.
Membership: Dues are paid differently this year. Please contact Vicki F. for more information. First
membership deadline is October 25th. Weekly “invoices” do not need to be paid and we are suggesting
WSPTA change the name to reduce confusion.
Outreach: Goal to increase membership numbers and diversity.
Programs: Congratulations to Penny Creek Elementary for receiving a Star Award for their Touch-A-Truck
Event! Check out the group award applications as many of them have changed significantly this year.
They are all available on your Leadership Packet flashdrive and the WSPTA website. Applegate Grant
application deadline is November 1, 2013.
Reflections: Training is scheduled for October 8th at Eisenhower from 7 to 8pm.
Shoe Fund: Local units are encouraged to get their donations in as soon as possible as requests are
already coming in.
