Cross cultural consumer psychology, advertising strategy, consumer socialization, food
advertising and regulations.
Research experience
Professor Kara Chan has been a professional statistician for seven years handling large-scale
social science surveys. She completed over twenty research projects funded by Faculty
Research Grant of HKBU and a research project funded by the Research Grant Council. She
completed two research projects on environmental studies funded by Environment and
Conservation Fund and Woo Wheelock Green Fund. She completed three contracted research
projects commissioned by the Environmental Protection Department, the Occupational and
Safety Council, and the Employees Compensation Insurance Levies Management Board. She
has published over sixty journal articles, conference papers and book chapters. She is the coauthor of the book “Advertising to children in China” and the editor of the book “Advertising
and Hong Kong Society”. She is the co-editor of the book “Advertising and the Chinese Society:
Issues and Impacts”, and is now working on a book project “Youth and Consumption”.
