Project Management Institute PMP®/CAPM® Certification South Western Ontario Chapter Exam Preparation Course 2014/2015 Introduction
The primary purpose of the Project Management Professional® (PMP) and Certified Associate in
Project Management® (CAPM) Certification Exam Preparation course is to prepare the
participant for the PMP®/CAPM® exam. The course provides a overview the project life cycle,
project management process group, and the processes, tools and techniques of project
management as described in the Project Management Institute’s A Guide to the Project
Management Body of Knowledge, 5th Edition (2012).1
The Project Management Institute South Western Ontario Chapter offers the PMP® and CAPM®
Certification Exam Preparation course to SWOC members, full-time post secondary students,
and members of partnering organizations.
CourseDescription
The course features 35 hours2 of in-class instruction with follow-up web-based learning
opportunities including online discussion and sample PMP®/CAPM® exams.
The course covers all ten project management knowledge areas, including:












Project Management Concepts
Project conceptual framework and organizational structures for projects
Integration Management
Scope Management
Time Management
Cost Management
Quality Management
Communication Management
Human Resource Management
Risk Management
Procurement Management
Stakeholder Management.
In-class sessions include presentations, discussion, case studies and sample exam questions.

Although it may provide a general overview of project management, the content is reviewed quickly and it is
assumed that the participant already has some knowledge of project management. This course is not suitable for
those seeking an introduction to project management. 2
Registration for the PMP certification exam requires 35 hours of formal project management education.
Registration for the CAPM certification exam requires 23 hours of formal project management education.
Project Management Institute PMP®/CAPM® Certification 2014/2015 South Western Ontario Chapter Exam Preparation Course Each course participant will receive the Advanced PMBOK® Guide, 5th Edition PMP®
Certification Exam Preparation Kit published by InAct. This kit includes:

Quick reference card
Flash Cards
6 months access to the InAct website with sample exams and other resources
Instructors
The course instructors are volunteer PMP® credential holders from the South Western Ontario
Chapter, each offering a session in their area of expertise. In addition to being PMP® credential
holders, instructors have years of training and instructional experience at the post-secondary and
professional development levels.
LearningObjectives
At the completion of this course the learner will be able to:


Describe in detail the project management knowledge areas, processes, interrelationships
of processes, and numerous attributes of a structured approach to managing projects as
articulated in the PMBOK® Guide 5th Edition.
Develop solutions to real world situations, scenarios, and case studies through applying
project management knowledge and processes.
