Setting: Italy, 14th century
Federigo is a young noble who falls in love with a beautiful married woman, Monna
Giovanna. He spends all his money trying to woo her, but she will not have him.
Eventually, he has nothing left but a small farm and a wonderful falcon.
Monna Giovanna’s husband dies. Each summer, she travels to the country. There her
young son becomes friends with Federigo. The boy especially loves Federigo’s falcon.
When the boy falls sick, he tells his mother that he might get well if he had the
falcon. Monna Giovanna goes to Federigo’s house. She tells him she wants to make
up to him for her past coldness by having a meal with him. Because he has nothing
else to serve her, Federigo roasts the falcon. After dinner, Monna Giovanna tells
Federigo that she needs the falcon to make her son well.

Giovanna va a casa de Federico. Le dice que quiere compensar su displicencia del pasado aceptando una
comida con él. Como él no tiene nada que ofrecerle, Federico asa el halcón. Después de la cena, Monna
Giovanna le dice a Federico que necesita el halcón para que su hijo mejore.
