2009 Candlelight and Roses - John F Kennedy Catholic School

advertisement
Welcome
Good evening, everyone!
Welcome to the 9th annual Gala of Candlelight and Roses in support of our educational
programs for John F. Kennedy Catholic School and Our Lady of Victory Parish.
As pastor of the parish, I am pleased to welcome all of you to this fantastic venue of
great food and entertainment. There is a lot here to enjoy -- socializing with friends,
meeting new people, and especially bidding on the many auction items. Be sure to visit
all of the displays, but save some energy for the live auction and dancing later in the
evening.
Hosting our Gala in Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center, the Gala Committee has
orchestrated a new adventure for us all to enjoy. A lot of time, talent, and treasure have
been poured into the planning of this important fundraiser. Personally, I am very
grateful for the Committee's careful planning over the course of several months. Many
businesses, families, and individuals have provided generously for auction items,
services and decorations to create an evening of top quality dining and fun. A lot of
effort devoted to the raffling of a new car is paying off tonight. Be sure to hang on to
your lucky ticket!
I am grateful to everyone who has contributed in any way for this Gala. Our teachers
and students at JFK, and our youth who partake in Faith Formation and Youth Ministry
all benefit from the moneys raised tonight. Thank you.
Enjoy your evening!
Msgr. James Parizek
Pastor
Dear Gala supporters,
Gala has come to mean an evening of fun for all involved, but it means so much more.
With active helpers across the ages, and communities in our large and active
Parish, Gala funds have allowed the seeds of fostering adult activities to grow in faith
into year-round opportunities for learning. With Gala-funded technology supporting
our efforts, our educational ministries have accepted many challenges to bring life-long
learning resources and programming available to all ages.
We especially welcome visitors who are new to our Gala evening as you celebrate the
fine activities planned for you.
Enjoy your evening of Candlelight and Roses knowing that the fruits of your generous
contributions will continue to allow creativity and outreach to become a reality for the
educational needs of our community.
Trish Gallagher
Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation
Dear Family and Friends of Our Lady of Victory and John F. Kennedy Catholic School,
What a blessing it is to be part of such a dedicated faith filled family these past few
years. I would like to personally welcome you to the 2009 Gala, Candlelight and Roses!
It has been my privilege to watch students grow within the school and parish benefitting
from all the dedicated work the Gala Committees have freely given throughout the
years.
I am able to help young people embrace their faith using technology purchased with
Gala funds, as part of the Faith Formation Ministries here at Our Lady of Victory.
I have personally witnessed and heard youth talk about the benefits of experiencing the
National Evangelization Team retreats, paid for by Gala funds. This year, over 45 youth
and adults will be traveling to the National Catholic Youth Conference in Kansas City
with the help of Gala funds. NCYC inspired the youth of Our Lady of Victory to reach
outside the parish and raise almost $45,000 to help Habitat for Humanity of the Quad
Cities.
Enjoy yourself, and “Thank You” for supporting the Gala.
God Bless!
Leigh Boorn
Coordinator of Youth Ministry
Welcome to the OLV/JFK Gala. With the candlelight and roses, it looks (and smells)
like a perfect evening! I would like to thank the Gala Steering Committee for securing
the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center. With such a great deal offered to us, it
was too good to allow to pass!
The Gala cannot take place without the hard work of many people. There are so many
areas with which people help:
securing the location, working with caterers and vendors, designing the Gala booklet,
operating the check out process, decorating the tables, paying the bills, sending thank
yous, and many more. I have not even begun to mention all of the work that goes into
putting together the car raffle, the silent auction, live auction items, and classroom
packages.
Of course, none of these auction areas would take place without the generosity of those
making donations of services, merchandise, and cash. Please review the Gala booklet
and thank all of the people that helped make this evening’s activities a possibility.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you who are attending our Gala. Your generosity
and fellowship contribute towards making the evening a success for all.
Thank you for attending, and may God bless you and your family.
Chad C. Steimle
Principal, John F. Kennedy Catholic School
Dear Friends,
Welcome to this year’s Gala – Candlelight and Roses – our 9th annual event. While the
Gala is the largest fundraiser for the parish educational needs, it is perhaps more
importantly an opportunity to have fun as a parish community!
The Gala Steering Committee would like to thank the many volunteers that made this
event possible. Many hours of preparation went into making the evening something
special. We also want to thank all of our contributors that are listed in this booklet.
Most of all, the Committee would like to thank you for your continued support of the
Gala. Without your support, this important fundraiser would not be successful.
Have fun and enjoy the evening.

“Mystery Bottles”
We have put together bottles of wine, champagne, and various
types of alcohol that are each assigned a number.
Each number has a corresponding “Mystery Gift.”
These “Mystery Gifts” range in value from $5 - $50.
The types of “Mystery Gifts” include gift certificates for
restaurants, entertainment venues, physical items, etc.
Simply select a “Mystery Bottle” that you would like to
purchase for $25.
On the “Mystery Bottles” Sheet, place your bidder number next
to the number of the “Mystery Bottle” that you would like to
purchase. Take the “Mystery Bottle” you selected with you, but
do not open it during the Gala.
At checkout, you will receive the “Mystery Gift” that goes with
the “Mystery Bottle” you purchased.
This is one way to make sure that you don’t leave the Gala
empty handed!
Does Money Really
Grow On Trees?
Our Lady of Victory Youth Ministry has put together a
“Money Tree.”
For $1.00, you can guess how much money is decorating the
tree. Or, for $5.00, you get 6 guesses. The more you guess,
the better your chance of winning! Demonstrate your skill
by making a guess. Just like on the “Price is Right,” you
can’t go over the actual amount.
The closest guess, without going over, will win all the
money on the tree!
Visit the “Money Tree” near the Car Raffle outside the
ballroom. In the case of a tie, your name will be placed in a
hat, and Msgr. Parizek will draw the winning name just
before the car is given away.
Don’t hesitate! Come by and purchase a guess between 6
and 9 pm and prove your parents wrong … money does
grow on trees … sort of.
Silent Auction
Silent Auction Rules
1. The Silent Auction will be open for bidding at 6:00 PM, and will close
on a staggered basis throughout the evening. The closing bid circled
by a Gala Official constitutes the winning bid.
2. Each item in the Silent Auction has a corresponding bid sheet. Persons
desiring to bid may do so by writing in their bidder number and bid
amount on the bid sheet.
3. Use only the bidder number assigned to you. This number is your
identification.
4. Each new bidder number must be written on the bid sheet on the next
available blank line. Each raise of a bid must equal or exceed the
minimum raise of $5 in order to constitute a valid bid. Silent Auction
bids will be disqualified if a minimum raise is not sufficient.
5. Scratching off bids is not allowed. Once a bid has been properly
entered on the bid sheet, this constitutes a valid and a binding bid.
6. A Gala Official will disqualify the bid of any person who attempts to
block the way of others who wish to bid on the same item or items
adjacent to it. If a person’s bid is disqualified, the bid of the person
preceding it will be honored. Only a Gala Official may nullify a bid.
7. In the event of a dispute, a Gala Official shall act as the final authority
and shall determine the winning bid. This decision is final.
8. The Gala makes no express or implied warranties on auction items
other than those from the manufacturer, which may be with your
purchase.
9. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used
within one year after December 5, 2009.
10. Silent Auction items may be removed only by showing a paid receipt
at the Silent Auction Table where the items were originally displayed.
All auction items must be picked up the evening of the Gala.
11. To avoid disappointment, contact the donors of any trips, dinners, and
all other services as soon as possible after the Gala to inform them you
have the winning bid and to make necessary arrangements. This is a
courtesy which should be extended to all donors.

One Week Stay at Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort, Orlando, FL
(Friday June 18, 2010 – Friday June 25, 2010)
This 3 bedroom deluxe suite sleeps up to 10 people.
Located right outside Disney World!
Donated by Gary and Nancy Gusse
Value $2,100
The stay at the Wyndham Resort in Orlando, Florida was a
great experience for our family. It was located right outside
of Disney and it was easy to get to the other theme parks.
The place was everything and more you could want for a
family vacation. We all enjoyed the two lazy rivers, played
volleyball, as well as miniature golf. There were locations to
order food or you could fix whatever you wished in the fully
equipped kitchen in your suite. The personnel were great!
The weather was very pleasing at that time of year (mid
June). There was always a light breeze and temps in the
80's. The pool temperature was always comfortable. We
would go back in a heart beat.

Donated by Ron Garrett
Value $ 2,500
Minimum Bid $800
The Time Share vacation we obtained at the 2009 Gala was absolutely magnificent! We
met several times with Cindy & Paul Scheibelhut and Loretta & Jay Reed to discuss our
plans to use this gift and laughed extensively each occasion we met. Once we decided on
vacationing in Kauai, Hawaii, we contacted former OLV parishioner, Terry Houlihan,
who relocated to Kauai 3-4 years ago for help in planning our trip.
We extended our 7 day condo use by 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed a fabulous
experience. The beaches, sights, weather were superb. But the views from Kalalau Trail
and Waimea Canyon were even more breathtaking. One would have thought it was a bit
of heaven, a paradise for sure!
Owner, Ron Garrett, was only an email or phone call away and very
graciously helped us with details. We definitely feel the gift we
won at the OLV/JFK Gala was a fantastic bargain. It is a win/win situation for anyone
who chooses to use it. We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to benefit from this
donor.
Dee & I are avid travelers. We recommend this option for anyone who loves adventure!
The Lazios
What better way is there to get the holiday season underway than
to “Pay it Forward?” Bid on this package brought to you by
Faith Formation, and you can "Pay it Forward!" When you bid on
this package, you will be giving twice: first to the wonderful
Gala, and then again to a family that will benefit greatly from
your generosity. Bidding on this package works just like any
other package. You will just have the added bonus of knowing
that you have “Paid it Forward!” You don’t even need to worry
about delivery; we will take care of delivering everything in
this package to the Humility of Mary Shelter after the Gala. We
have included many items that will help a family in need. Below
is just a partial list:
Sheets
Blankets
Desk Lamp
Many other various household
items, too. So, make sure
you check out the display!
Also, 100% of the winning bid is tax deductible since this
package will be donated to Humility of Mary Shelter in
Davenport, Iowa.
This package was made possible because of the
generosity of OLV’s Faith Formation families.
