ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
The Board of Education of Norwood SD 63,
Peoria, Illinois is seeking qualified applicants for
the position of Superintendent/Principal. The person selected for the position of Superintendent/
Principal of the district will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Abby Humbles, who has
served in this capacity for 9 years. Due to declining enrollment, at the beginning of the 2015-2016
school year the position of Superintendent will
include principal duties. However, the
Superintendent will have a lead teacher/dean to
assist with curriculum development and student
discipline. The Board wishes to select a superintendent/principal who will begin work on July 1,
2015.
The total compensation package will be in the
range of $90-120,000 based on successful experience and education. It is expected that the initial
contract will be for a multi-year period, as authorized by Illinois statutes.
GENERAL INFORMATION ON
THE DISTRICT AND THE AREA
LOCATION — Norwood is located in Peoria
County in the villages of Norwood and
Bellevue. Norwood District is an Elementary
School District with two campuses: Norwood
Primary (serving grades PreK-4) and Norwood
Elementary (serving grades 5-8). Norwood
Elementary School District is one of eight feeder
school districts in the Limestone area.
Graduates of Norwood attend Limestone
Community High School.

STAFF — 1 Principal, 1 Lead Teacher/Dean, 32
Teachers, 25 Support Personnel.
CENTRAL OFFICE PERSONNEL —
Superintendent/Principal, Elementary Secretary,
Bookkeeper.
CURRICULUM — Norwood District follows the
guidelines of the State of Illinois School Board
regarding state standards. Curriculum is developed around those core standards. Additional
offerings include RTI, Accelerated Reader,
Computer Instruction, Music, Physical
Education, Band, Math Counts, ISMA,
Scholastic Bowl and a wide variety of academic
and athletic extracurricular activities in K-8.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS — Norwood Elementary
School District is part of a special education
cooperative: Special Education Association of
Peoria County. Norwood houses behavior cross
categorical classrooms and a life skills classroom. We offer Bright Futures programs.
Juvenile Detention Center and Children’s Home
is also within school boundaries.
FACILITIES — Norwood Primary houses PreK4th grades. Norwood Elementary houses grades
5th-8th grades. The central office is housed at
Norwood Elementary also.
TRANSPORTATION — First Student Bus
Company.
CAFETERIA PROGRAM — In house breakfast
and lunch program with five cafeteria staff
employees.
CULTURAL — The Alpha Park Library recently
expanded and remodeled averages 8,500 customers each month. The library is well known
in the library community for a staff that is committed to providing excellent customer service.
Nearby Peoria offers quality medical care, destination shopping, symphony, opera, ballet,
Broadway theatre and top entertainment at the
Peoria Civic Center, Lakeview Museum of Arts
and Sciences, and fine dining. Professional
sports include the Peoria Chiefs (Class A
Midwest League Affiliate of the St. Louis
Cardinals) and the Peoria Rivermen (East Coast
Hockey League).
RECREATION — Norwood residents take pride
in the acres and acres of parks with a variety of
recreation options. Lush and lavish green grasses are punctuated with picnic shelters, fitness
trails, playgrounds and more. Alpha Park,
Mendenhall Park, Lauterbach Park and the
Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway all
offer numerous outdoor activities.
PLACES OF WORSHIP — Second Baptist
Church, Bethal Baptist Church, several area
churches.
RETAIL — Norwood Elementary School District
is just minutes away from Northwoods Mall and
the Shoppes at Grand Prairie.
Local area has industrial parkway, Subway sandwich shop, several eating establishments and
cafes, and several gas stations.
MEDICAL — OSF St. Francis which is the 4th
largest hospital in Illinois, Methodist Medical
Center, Proctor Hospital.
