Parish Mission Statement The Peace of Christ calls us to create a Christian Community where God is found in the beauty and joy of our worship; in the breadth of our outreach; and in our love for one another. Since we are now over goal by way of pledges, this list will appear only once a month to indicate all known participants through the end of the preceding month. If you pledged a contribution to the CMA but do not see your name, please contact the parish office at 288-5000 to let them know that your name is missing. Every now and then, a donation is credited to the wrong parish, and we certainly want yours to be properly credited to Peace of Christ. If you have not yet made your pledge to this year’s appeal, you have until May 31, 2016 to do so. Indeed, it would be so nice to have at least more than 50% of the parish participating so that a small percentage (currently less than 25%) does not need to carry the weight for all. These additional pledges, however modest, will also help assure that we actually reach our goal of $99,796 in funds received. Otherwise, our parish will need to pay the difference out of savings which are budgeted for our ministries and facilities. Besides, the parish gets to keep half of all that comes in once we have actually paid our goal amount to the diocese, and this will help greatly in addressing all those things for which we cannot budget but that seem always to arise in the course of the year, especially fixing things that break. So, thanks again—we will not need to do the In-Pew Sunday request this year—and may God’s blessings be in abundance on all who (will) have given so generously in this campaign. This morning, there is a Workshop for youth preparing for First Penance in St. James Church Hall from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon. Monday, our Peace of Christ Children’s Choir will practice at St. Ambrose from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, our Peace of Christ Handbell Choir will rehearse at St. Ambrose from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Also, our Pastoral Council will meet in St. John’s Hall at 7:00 P.M. Following the Opening Prayer, Open Forum, and Councilors’ Concerns, we will address Goal 2 of our Vision Statement, review the monthly Finance Report, hear the Youth Report from our Youth Representatives, discuss the upcoming Year of Mercy (December 8, 2015-November 20, 2016) and other regional concerns, and review the results of last week’s meeting on the annual car raffle. Wednesday is Veterans’ Day (Remembrance Day in Canada). The children in our St. John Neumann School will remember our veterans in a special service at 1:30 P.M. in Dailey Hall. All are welcome! Wednesday is also the birthday of Vicki Iannettone in our parish office. And we have a Coffee Hour, 7:00-9:00 P.M. at St. James. Thursday, the 200th anniversary of the birth of social reformer Elizabeth Cady Stanton, we have Lunch Bunch at Noon at St. John’s and our next Peace and Justice presentation at 6:30 P.M. at St. John’s. The Australian bishops spoke of the importance of such conversion for achieving reconciliation with creation: “To achieve such reconciliation, we must examine our lives and acknowledge the ways in which we have harmed God’s creation through our actions and our failure to act. We need to experience a conversion, or change of heart”. FROM THE HEADLINES – There are 3 trillion trees on our planet now. It is estimated that there were 5.6 trillion before humans existed. Tim Brown to which you are all graciously invited. This series has proved to be highly popular with at least 50 people attending each time. The third session, focusing on the Lost Coin, will be held November 21 In St. John’s Church from 10:00 AM till noon. With Pope Francis’s proclamation of an Extraordinary Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy, Women of the Well members will proclaim each parable, bringing it to life, followed by Fr. Tim’s reflection. Fr. Tim will help us discern and contemplate the meaning of Jesus’s stories as we strive to learn and live what Jesus instructed. There will be time for group discussion, questions and answers along with light refreshments. This is a special opportunity we hope parishioners and guests will partake in during this Year of Mercy. Please join us as we look at what Jesus’s words meant then, and what they mean for us today, as we strive towards living as Jesus taught us…. with mercy in our lives. Page Six Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Each week, this page has appeared in the bulletin to thank all those who have given to this year’s Catholic Ministries Appeal. Names have been added to the page as we received pledges at the parish office or as we received notice from the diocese that pledges had been received there. This Roster of Appreciation will continue now on a monthly basis to list all donors throughout the campaign with each month’s new pledges being appended to them in bold print. Names will appear alphabetically (note: if you wish not to be listed, please indicate so on your card and we will include your gift under “Anonymous”). No individual pledge amounts will be shown, just the average gift given thus far in the campaign. If you made a pledge and still do not see your name, please let us know so that we can verify with the CMA Office at the Diocese that your pledge was credited to Peace of Christ Parish. Every now and then a pledge is miscoded and gets applied to some other parish’s goal until we discover the error—another reason for this list. The campaign ends May 31, 2016, and though we have already reached our goal in pledges, we are truly hoping to have over 50% of our parish be contributors to this appeal which supports ministries and services for us all. Just drop your completed pledge card (as received in the mail or obtained in the church vestibule) into the Sunday collection or into the mail. Suggestion: Act on this right now not only so that you can take possible tax advantage of year-end giving, but so that we can also put this all behind us so as to move on to more spiritual matters that should be more regularly before our attention—such as The Year of Mercy itself. Thanks so very much! Now, gifts which have helped us so greatly and been received thus far include the following: Mrs. Barbara Abel, Ms. Lena H. One-half of all gifts given from this point onward will be able to remain right here in the parish for our local ministerial needs. May well over 50% of all our parishioners be One Body in supporting the work of the Church! Father Bob Schrader Peace of Christ Parish Children’s Choir The Peace of Christ Parish Children’s Choir sings for the Christmas Eve 4:00 PM Mass each year. This choir is open to all children/parishioners in grades 3-8. In preparation for the upcoming Advent and Christmas Season, all rehearsals are Mondays from 6:00-7:00PM in St. Ambrose Church. The first rehearsal is Monday, November 9. Please enter church through the front doors (Empire Blvd) as the parish office is closed on Monday Evenings. The complete schedule is below. This once-a-year choir is a wonderful opportunity to sing at church and is a short-term commitment.
