Things Fall Apart
Final Assessment:
PROJECT
English Class – Ms Authenrieth
Due: January 24, 2014
Your final assessment for Things Fall Apart by
Chinua Achebe also requires that you complete a
creative project.
You may choose one of the following projects:
1. Book Trailer
2. Facebook Page
3. Film Adaptation
Specific directions for the completion of each
project are on the following pages.
Book Trailer
A book trailer is a short video that advertises and promotes
a book and encourages others to read it.
Like a movie trailer, a book trailer should get the viewer’s
attention, provide some basic plot and setting information,
and keep the viewer interested through sound and images.
Some examples of student-made book trailers can be found
at:
http://www.booktrailersforreaders.com/
Your book trailer can be made using iMovie or
MovieMaker and published to YouTube or another videohosting site.
Your assignment is to create at 1.5-3 minute trailer for Things Fall Apart.
The trailer should include the following:
• A “hook” that gets the viewers attention
• Images/Video
• Text
• Soundtrack
• Interest – your video should persuade!
• Credits – you must give credit for the images and soundtrack used
Your video should be published by January 24.
Character Facebook Page
A Fakebook page is a way for you to demonstrate that you
are familiar with a character from Things Fall Apart as well
as the way in which this character interacts with others over
the course of the novel.
Your Fakebook Page must include the following:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
A picture of your character
A cover image
“About” information
6 friends
1 current status update
3 previous status updates
At least 2 comments from friends for each status
update (a minimum of 8 total comments)
A character Fakebook page can be created online at:
http://www.classtools.net/FB/home-page
OR
You can create a poster that looks like a Facebook page and
includes all of the necessary elements above.
Your Character Facebook Page should be handed-in or
published and the link emailed to me at
kauthen@bxdca.org by January 24.
Film Adaptation
A Film Adaptation is when a book is turned into a movie
and often slightly changed in the process. This is a
complicated process and many things - like the script,
actors, soundtrack, and where to film - need to be taken
into consideration.
Your Film Adaptation can be a written plan or an actual
video with student actors. Whether you write-out your plan
or make a short film with others, your Film Adaptation will
need to include:
• 5 different actors to play characters from Things Fall
Apart. You must include an explanation of why you
chose these particular actors.
• 3 scenes (chapters) from the book.
o For each scene, you must choose a specific
setting and explain your choice.
o Your settings can be modernized!
• 3 songs – 1 each for your 3 scenes.
o Your music choices should reflect the action of
the scenes you chose.
o You must explain why you chose these particular
songs.
Your Film Adaptation needs to be presented to the class.
You should bring in your soundtrack and be prepared to
share your plan on January 24.
