About the Profession
Food preparation is truly an art. Those
who are most successful started their
careers with formal education and
professional training.
Career Options
You can work in restaurants, large
institutions, resorts or private homes, in
research and development, as a food
and beverage manager, or aspire to the
culinary entertainment field.
Working Conditions
Industrial kitchens require teamwork
and cooperation. You will be on your
feet and under tight deadlines. However,
there is great camaraderie in the kitchen,
the industry and professional
organizations.
Income Potential
For chefs and head cooks, annual incomes range from $24,770 to $74,060.
Bakers’ salaries range from $17,070 to
$37,070. However, income potential
is unlimited for those who rise
to the top of the profession.
Career Advancement
Culinary staff usually work their way up
from prep-cook, to station cook, to sous
chef, to chef de cuisine and executive
chef. Many become restaurant owners,
and a few become celebrity chefs.
About the Program
This program focuses on the applied
techniques and theoretical aspects of the
profession in a small class environment
with a teacher-to-student ratio of 1 to 12.

Baking and Pastry Certificate
The Baking and Pastry Certificate program introduces students to the techniques of producing artisan breads, classic
pastries, pies, tarts and petits fours, cookies, cakes, confections, and showpieces. Throughout the program, students
develop an increased awareness of professionalism and
proficiency in preparation procedures, production methods,
and presentation techniques for pastries, baked goods, and
desserts, as well as nutritional factors, cost control, and
food safety. During and after completion of the program, the

Culinary & Hospitality
Management, A.A.S.
The Associate of Applied Science in Culinary and Hospitality Management prepares students for employment in food
service and hospitality. The program of study offers a strong
balance between the technical hands-on training in culinary
techniques, the theoretical training, and the general education core values required to succeed in this field. The Culinary Arts program is located on the Bullhead City Campus in

Planning for the future
Mohave Community College is your stepping stone to advanced
college degrees and other specialized education through the
partnerships that MCC has established with 17 premiere four-year
educational institutions. These institutions offer seamless transfer of
most MCC credits and programs to bachelor degree programs. In
many instances, students also have the opportunity to continue their
education with programs that lead to master and doctoral degrees.

Financial aid is offered at MCC through scholarships, loans,

Veterans Education Benefits
Mohave Community College provides services to veterans, widows
and dependents who may be eligible for education assistance from
the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Services offered include
assistance with the application for education benefits, tutoring
assistance and services for disabled veterans.
Disability Services
Each campus has a Student Services Specialist who coordinates
assistance to people with documented disabilities. These individuals
provide disability accommodations, information and referral
services. They serve as a connecting link between students with
disabilities and the college. Students needing accommodations
should contact a Student Services Specialist before registering for
classes. The college requires six weeks’ notice to provide disability

Policy Statement
Mohave Community College strives to facilitate, within reason,
appropriate resources, services, and auxiliary aids to allow each

The vice president for administration, director of human resources
and the dean of student services shall act as ADA coordinators for
