Style Guide for Bibliographies and Footnotes

Based on Scientiļ¬ c Style and Format: The CSE Manual for Authors, Editors, and Publishers, 7th Edition, 2006. Council of Science

Editors (formerly CBE, the Council of Biology Editors)

This guide shows examples of in-text citations and references at the end of a document. (Possible headings for the latter are References, Literature Cited or Bibliography.)

CSE advises writers to always cite the version used: the print version if that was used, or the electronic version if that was used. This style guide demonstrates the name-year system; for guidance on the citation-name system, consult Scientific Style and Format.
