Annex X1: Procedure for Paint Material (Form A)
Qualification

Scope
JDM F17X1 specifies the requirements and procedure for John Deere enterprise qualification of a paint
material to meet JDM F17 topcoat and primer requirements. Paint process qualification is covered in
JDM F17X2.
Note 1 Qualification according to JDM F17X1 is referred to as "Form A approval" or "Form A qualification".
Qualification according to JDM F17X2 is referred to as "Form B qualification".

Paint Material Qualification Requirements
2.1
All requirements according to JDM F17 shall be met before a topcoat or primer material is qualified.
2.2
All paints shall be Form A approved before the material is used in production.

Preparing Panels for Form A Material Qualification Testing
3.1
Prior to submitting panels for Form A material qualification, request a Form A Qualification form at
e-mail address MTICPaintLab@JohnDeere.com.
3.2
The following requirements apply to test panel preparation. If a different test panel is used, specify
the changes on the Form A Qualification form. (Refer to JDQ 1 for further information.)

Panels shall be commercial test panels purchased with iron phosphate and chrome seal
Material shall be cold-rolled steel
Panel size (nominal dimensions) shall be 100 mm width u 300 mm height u 0.8 mm thickness
(4 in u 12 in u 0.032 in)
Paint shall be applied directly to the panels (single coat)
A total of eight (8) prepared panels shall be submitted.

Submitting Panels for Form A Approval
Complete the Form A Qualification form according to the instructions:

Panel Review and Paint Material Approval
5.1
The panels shall be tested by a laboratory approved by the John Deere Moline Technology
Innovation Center (MTIC). Authorized John Deere personnel shall review the tested panels and test
results to verify conformance to JDM F17 requirements. Panels may be retested to verify results for
some or all of the requirements.
5.2 If all requirements for JDM F17 Form A qualification are satisfied, then an approval document will
be generated. All Form A approval documents will be kept on file at John Deere MTIC. Electronic copies
will be sent to the contact person for the supplier as designated on the Form A Qualification form.

6.1
Access to John Deere Standards
6.1.1 John Deere Standards can be accessed by John Deere personnel via the Engineering Standards
internal website.
6.1.2 Employees of suppliers with an approved John Deere supplier number can obtain access to John
Deere Standards via the JD Supply Network (JDSN). Access to JDSN is by approved individual name
and password. Suppliers should contact their Supply Management representative with questions about
JDSN.
Note 2 Only John Deere Standards which have been approved for supplier distribution are available via JDSN.
6.2
Access to Standards from External Organizations
6.2.1 Most standards from organizations external to John Deere are available to John Deere personnel
via the Engineering Standards internal website.
6.2.2 Suppliers are responsible for obtaining relevant external standards. In accordance with copyright
laws and Company policy, John Deere personnel shall not provide copies of these standards to suppliers.
