SO MUCH MORE
2014 Annual Report
YMCA OF CENTRAL TEXAS
GIVE. JOIN. VOLUNTEER.
Waco-McLennan County faces challenges that
create a greater need for the work we do.
Fortunately, where some see obstacles, we see
opportunities for our members, volunteers, staff,
and generous donors like you to make a difference.
No other organization can impact as many people
as powerfully as we do every day.
The Y. So Much More™
OUR MISSION
To put Christian principles into practice through
programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body
for all.
OUR PROMISE
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause.
Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors
to make sure that everyone — regardless of age,
income or background — has the opportunity to
learn, grow and thrive.
OUR VALUES
Our core values of caring, honesty, respect and
responsibility guide our interactions and
decisions.
OUR AREAS OF FOCUS
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen
All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve under the guidance of adults who care about them and believe in their potential.
We see every interaction with young people as an opportunity for learning and development.

HEALTHY LIVING
Improving the nation’s health and well-being
Health and well-being are all about balance. That’s why we help people and families build and maintain healthy habits for spirit, mind and body in their everyday lives.
By helping kids, adults, families and seniors from all backgrounds improve their health and well-being, we build a stronger community.
About 40% of children in Waco-McLennan County
are above their healthy body weight. Nearly 25 kids
ages 7-13 and their families learned how
to reach and maintain a healthy weight
through MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do It!)
— a free 10-week evidence-based lifestyle program.
We offer nearly 200 fitness classes
every week across two branches.
28 cancer survivors
reclaimed their
total health thanks
to LIVESTRONG® at
the YMCA — a free
12-week program.
Active Older Adults in the YMCA increase their selfconfidence and sense of achievement while building
relationships within their AOA community. Every month,
300 Active Older Adults participate in water fitness
classes. Another 30 became more active, energized,
and empowered for independent living thanks to
Enhance®Fitness — a proven community-based senior
fitness and arthritis management program.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Giving back and providing support to our neighbors
With our doors open to all, we work every day to connect people from all backgrounds and support those who need us most. We take on the most urgent needs in
our community and inspire a spirit of service in return. Our members, volunteers, supporters and staff demonstrate the power of what we can achieve by giving back
together.
More than 150 elementary and middle school students
learned fundamental water-safety techniques through
Swim to Safety — a four-day program.
The Todd Behringer family donated
a Hanovia UV system for the
Waco Family YMCA lap pool.
The UV system reduces our water use
by 150,000 gallons each year.
Volunteerism
powers our Y.
Volunteers gave almost 3,182 hours
of their time valued at
more than $73,186.
In partnership with the Armed Services YMCA
and the Department of Defense, our Y is
proud to offer memberships to 65 active
military families and personnel. It’s our
way of giving back to those who dedicate
themselves to serving our country.
200 generous donors gave to our cause.
100% of those funds helped us provide
$334,473 in financial assistance, giving
everyone the opportunity to be healthy,
confident, connected and secure.
We employ about 250 teens and
young adults ages 16-24, providing
a foundation for their future careers
and economic potential.
