Jodie and Molly: welcome to our 4HH class assembly. We hope you

Greg: This is an unbelievable opportunity.
Libby: Lord Pepper is in the market for a new business partner.
Here to do battle for his backing, 6 ambitious Roman entrepreneurs.
At stake a Roman villa complete with bath, under floor heating and
flushing toilet.
It’s a deal worth fighting for.
6 potential business partners, 1 tough task, 1 life changing
opportunity.
Lord Peppers search for his Roman Apprentice begins.

Scene 1
Greg: Karen, Nick I have these six apprentices and I know nothing
about them. Do you?
Karen (Isabel): Well Lord Pepper we actually observed all candidates
last week.
Nick (Jack): This is what they had to say.

Max: My name is Romulus, I am the founder of great city of Rome. I
will stop at nothing to get what I want. Ask my brother. HA HA HA!
Harry: I am Mars, the God of war, I was put on this earth for one
reason. TO WIN!
Georgia: I am Julius Caesar, I am a born leader and the unrivalled
leader of Rome. I am here to conquer the opposition.
Ethan: I am a centurion, a powerful leader of 100 men. I am prepared
to fight to the death to win!
Haris: I am Augustus, the founder of the Roman Empire and its first
emperor. My superiority will overcome the opposition.
Emmie: I am Livia Drusilla, the first empress of Rome and wife of
Augustus. Perfection comes in one form, and you are looking at it.

Scene 2
Greg: They are certainly a modest bunch. (phones receptionist) Hi can
you send the apprentices in please?
Kyle: Certainly Lord Pepper. (turns to apprentices) Lord Pepper will
see you now.
Greg: I see from your CVs that we have a wide range of experiences,
from the founding of cities to the invasion of countries; however none
of that matters to me. What matters is how well you do on this task.
(apprentices nod)
Greg: Karen, Nick explain the task.
Karen(Isabel): Your task this week is to source and purchase a list of
Roman infantry equipment.
Nick(Jack): These include; helmet, body armour, gladius.
Karen(Isabel): Pugio, scutum and pilum.

Greg: The team who can purchase these items at the cheapest price
will win, and somebody from the losing team will be FIRED! Good luck!
Libby: Both teams head to the Roman market in search of the items.
Scene 3
(apprentices split into two teams and go around the market)
Emmie: Does anyone know what a gladius is?
Harry: I’ve heard it’s a type of dance move. (Dances silly) I’ve got the
moves like Jagger!
Karen/Isabel: (shakes her head in disappointment and tuts) TUT TUT
TUT!
Max: No it is not! It is a type of Roman sword!
Emmie: We will find one over there!

(team walk over to the store)
Alina: ROLL UP ROLL UP! You buy one you get one free! I say you buy
one you get free!
Harry: Do you sell any gladius? Apparently it’s a sword not a dance
move!
Ben: Yes we do.
Jacob: Are you interested?
Max: We sure are!
Emmie: But only at the right price.
(Jodie stands up) IM SPARTACUS! (Jodie sits down)
Alina: Anywayyyyyy. You buy one you get one free! I say you buy one
you get free!

Max: Just the one please.
Alex: That will be 200 gold coins please.
Harry: I’ll give you 5!
Jacob: You’re mad. It’s 200.
Emmie: Ok ok were wasting time here, throw in the Pugio dagger and
we have a deal.
Ben: Deal, (shakes hands with Emmie)
(Bobbie-Jo stands up) IM SPARTECUS! (Bobbie-Jo sits down)
Karen/Isabel: (writes on clipboard) What a farce!
(team walk away and stand at the side)

Scene 4
Georgia: Right ok, I only know what one item is on this list.
Ethan: Pass me the list! If you want a job doing well, you need to do it
yourself…………………… Oh I only know one too!
Haris:: What a pair of celts! A scutum is a shield for starters. It has
a metal plate in the middle which is used to hit your enemy on the
head with.
Nick/Jack: (whispering) That would be useful now, to knock some
sense into these!
Georgia: Ok Einstein, what’s a Pila? And I don’t mean peel a banana.
Ethan: I know! I know! it’s a javelin used to throw at the enemy.
Georgia: Oh I see! Look over there! There is a stall full of infantry
equipment.
(team walk over to the stall)

Holly: Buy your quality army equipment here, it’s cheaper than chips!
Nick/Jack: mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm chips! (writes on clipboard)
(Molly stands up) IM SPARTACUS! (Molly sits down)
Bobbie-Jo and Jodie: Yeah SHES Spartacus! (they lead Molly away)
Haris: Getting back to business. How much for a scutum and a pila?
Owen: Pila a banana?
Haris: No a javelin.
Iefan: For the both of them its 500 gold coins.
Ethan: I will give you 5.
Kobi: You’re mad! Its 500.
Georgia: 400 and we have a deal.
Alex: Deal! (shakes hands with Georgia)

(Team walk away and stand at the side)
Libby: Time has run out. The task is over. The 6 apprentices return to
the boardroom to find out who is going to be fired.
Scene 5
Greg: (phones receptionist) Hi can you send the apprentices in please?
Kyle: Certainly Lord Pepper. (turns to apprentices) Lord Pepper will
see you now.
Greg: From the feedback I have been given it appears that some of
you are as think as two planks. Peel a banana!!!! If I wanted monkeys
working for me id own a zoo.
Karen/Isabel: Don’t forget the gladius dance moves, that was an
embarrassment I must say.
Nick/Jack: Here here.
Greg: A complete shambles from start to finish. You are supposed to
be the best that the Romans have to offer, but it seems as though
you couldn’t organise a fight in a coliseum.

Greg: You’re all fired……………………… I need someone working for me
who can lead, has ambition and modesty and who most of the time
knows what they are doing……................... Miss Hughes. YOU’RE
HIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
