How to choose a Personal Trainer
In order for a personal trainer to design a safe and effective workout, he or she
should have education and experience. Being certified through a nationally
recognized certifying agency insures that the trainer is getting continuing
education. This means that the trainer is knowledgeable about the latest
information and research on health and fitness issues and understands the
principles of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, and exercise.
All YMCA Personal Trainers are certified by the National Academy of
Sports Medicine as well as CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid certified.
Finding a trainer that is right for YOU
Some people like to exercise in the morning, some in the evening. Will the
personal trainer you're talking to accommodate your schedule? What about the
trainer's gender? Some people do better working with a trainer of the same sex;
others prefer the opposite sex. Interview more than one. Ask questions about
his or her style of training and experience with any particular injuries or special
problems that may need to be addressed. The personal trainer you select should
motivate you by positive reinforcement. Even more importantly, your trainer
should be someone you trust.
MICROFIT Fitness Assessments
Wellness Profile-The Wellness Profile program examines lifestyle behaviors
that can affect an individual’s health and longevity. The questionnaire focuses
on the areas of exercise, nutrition, alcohol consumption, safety, tobacco use
and stress. The Wellness Profile analyzes your client’s current health behaviors
and provides recommendations to reduce the risk of future disease or disability.
FREE to all members!
Fitness Profile-The Fitness Profile program can record, analyze and track
physical health and fitness measurements for males and females ages 5 to 90.
The program includes over 40 tests in the areas of body shape and
composition, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and flexibility. This
Fitness Profile is included in the price of your first Personal Training session
when purchasing a multi-session package. FREE to all members!

YMCA Personal Training Fees
Personal Training at the YMCA will provide you with a physiologically and
scientifically sound fitness program that is specifically tailored to meet your needs now and
as your needs evolve. Your fitness program will be a comprehensive lifestyle plan, including
an assessment of your current fitness level. One session is typically one hour long and may
include one or more of the following: health screening, fitness evaluation and testing,
nutrition counseling at the client’s request, and possibly a basic workout program.
Purchasing more sessions will get you an individualized program, more detailed instruction of
your overall fitness routine, cardiovascular conditioning, resistance training, flexibility, stress
management, safe and proper technique, motivation, accountability, and positive feedback and
encouragement. All trainers are CPR, First Aid, AED and O2 certified as well as nationally
certified in personal training.
All fees must be paid in full at time of purchase and prior to first
session. All sessions must be used within 90 days of purchase.

Pilates Reformer
Pilates is a unique system of stabilizing strengthening and stretching exercises developed over 90 years
ago by Joseph Pilates. You will develop core strength and increased flexibility because Pilates is a full
body workout. This is not a “cardio” class. Maximum of 3 people per class. Sessions must be completed
within 90 days of purchase date. A free 30 minute demonstration is available. One free demonstration
per member. All classes are held in the Personal Training Studio.

1. A food diary. Chart everything you eat and drink
for 1 week before your appointment. This
will help the RDN find unhealthy patterns and
identify potential solutions. You can also record
physical activity on this chart.
2. A list of medications and supplements. Write down
the names and dosages you take. You can even take the
bottles to the appointment with you.
3. Questions. Write down any questions you have before you go. This way,
you won’t forget to ask anything. You can also ask the RDN to
recommend books and resources.
