Consumer and Industrial Products and Services (CIPS)
What does CIPS mean, you ask? CIPS is the acronym for Consumer
and Industrial Products and Services.
In today’s CIPS marketplace, there are few rules and no boundaries. PwC
has extensive expertise across the CIPS landscape. The prime focus for
our global CIPS practice are the companies and related suppliers within
the sectors of automotive, retail and consumer goods, pharmaceuticals
and healthcare, industrial products, transport and logistics, and higher
education.
Both CIPS groups in the Gauteng region offer extensive industry-specific
training and have dedicated knowledge management teams working
with all staff. To further assist you in acquiring the skills and knowledge
of your specific clients’ industry, we have a global PwC portal for all our
CIPS sub-industries which contains industry issues, thought leadership,
capability statements, client citations, conference and event information,
and Learning and Development course information (e-learning).
On the whole, our CIPS groups deal with some of the biggest products
and brands that you see and buy on a daily basis. I invite you to take a
glimpse into the week of a CIPS trainee (and how our clients impact us
every day):
It’s Friday morning, and you start off the day brushing your teeth with
GSK Aquafresh toothpaste and water from your Cobra taps! Wearing
your smart Pringle shirt from John Craig, designer shoes from Aldo, and
bag from Nine West and other House of Busby lines, you are ready to face
another day. Breakfast includes Ouma Rusks and Sunbake toast with
Yum Yum peanut butter from Nola and, of course, a cup of Jacobs coffee
from Kraft Foods that’s sweetened with Selati sugar.
Your flights on South African Airways will take you there in no time. You
can rest easy knowing that your house is monitored by Chubb security
and you have locks on all the doors, which you bought at Cashbuild.
Don’t forget to pack the Titleist golf clubs which you bought from
Acushnet and your Nike board shorts for the Lost City golf course and
the Valley of the Waves. On the plane trip to Sun City you fly over some
of the Earlybird chicken farms where you were auditing Astral Foods
last week. The air hostess asks you if you would like a chicken, beef or
vegetarian meal which is supplied by LSG Skychefs.
As you arrive at the Valley of the Waves, a Piemans pie, Cadbury
chocolate and ice-cold Coca-Cola from ABI await you before you hit the
water! Your golf game ends early because you wanted to watch the rugby
action at Ellis Park Stadium on the Sony TV where the Golden Lions
Rugby Union took on their opponents. What is a rugby match without a
Weber braai sizzling away with products from Foodcorp and of course
the cooler box filled with Castle Lager from South African Breweries?
Finally, you get to your hotel room at the Palace, where you pass out on a
comfy House and Home mattress. The headache from all this excitement
is quickly managed with a tablet from Aspen. What a day!
On a more serious note, CIPS trainees get to see the acquisition process,
the manufacturing process and the sale of the end product to the
marketplace (the end-to-end process). We audit a range of listed entities
and have an awesome client base which takes us around the world.
The CIPS practice operates within a global network, which affords our
trainees the opportunity for secondments to the global PwC offices.

hands-on experience.
The drive to work is in a Toyota Yaris kitted with Goodyear tyres fitted by
Hi-Q, and protected by Tracker. Your MTN cellular phone rings and it’s
a manager who needs your help next week to audit the casinos at Sun
International’s Sun City resort. You are excited knowing that you will
be joining the team already there for the weekend to watch Miss South
Africa and stay at the Palace before work on Monday.

Zakiyya Karodia
CIPS Sunninghill, HC Partner
My most memorable moment with CIPS Sunninghill would have to be doing casino audits. This has
given me the chance to travel all over SA and Africa. I had the opportunity of going to Swaziland and
the experience was awesome as I got to work and experience a different country. The CIPS family is
very warm and everyone is always willing to help and assist.
Tshepo Khoza,
Trainee Accountant
Our support structure is continually helping me to glide effortlessly into and through the working world
where our allocated “big brothers/sisters”, coaches and other team members are always just a question
away! CIPSUN is the perfect place to start your rat - race - fun run!
Hansie Vermooten,
Trainee Accountant
Hard work and effort does not go unnoticed in CIPS Sunninghill. Being awarded the PwC experience
award during my 1st month at CIPS was pleasantly surprising and much appreciated
Jessemaine Manickum,
Trainee Accountant
CIPS Sunninghill puts an end to the stereotype “boring accountant” because there are many fantastic
opportunities to interact with your colleagues outside of the work environment.
