Executive Summary
Background
The Sabah Law Association (“SLA”) is the representative body for lawyers and members of the legal profession that have
been admitted to the Sabah Bar. Through a membership basis, SLA represents, protects, and assist all its members in
protecting the integrity of the legal profession in Sabah.
The SLA Annual Dinner is the premier social event organised by and for SLA members across Sabah. Held annually, the SLA
Annual Dinner is the platform for our brothers and sisters in law as well as other distinguished guests to gather and socialize
for one night of companionship.
In celebrating the legal profession, the SLA Annual Dinner promises great entertainment by professionals and also lawyers,
to promote the notion that lawyers are creative, adaptive and multi-talented.
The SLA Annual Dinner serves to remind SLA and its members across Sabah that we are all united as one. Regardless of
where we are, the law speaks to all with one voice.
Objectives
SLA objectives are as follows:
• to uphold the cause of justice without regard to its own interests or that of its members, uninfluenced by fear or favour;
• to maintain and improve the standards of professional practice, etiquette, conduct, discipline, and learning of the legal
profession in Sabah;
• to facilitate the acquisition and dissemination of legal knowledge by members of the legal profession in Sabah
• to assist the Government and the Courts in all matters affecting legislation, administration and practice of law in Sabah;
• to represent, protect, and assist members of the legal profession in Sabah and to promote in any proper manner the
interest of the legal profession in Sabah;
• to establish libraries, and to acquire or rent premises to house the libraries and offices of the Association or amenities;
• to own, accept, hold, acquire, lease, apply for or transfer, dispose, assign, let or otherwise deal with properties both
movables and immoveables for the benefit of the Association and members;
• to promote good relation and social intercourse among members and between members and other persons concerned in
the administration of law and justice;
• to promote a system of legal advice and aid to poor and deserving persons;
• to grant pecuniary or other assistance to any association, institute, board or society in Sabah;
• to afford pecuniary and other assistance to members or former members of the widow/widower and children who are in
need of such assistance;
• to encourage, establish and maintain good relations with professional bodies of the legal profession within and outside
Malaysia and to participate in the activities of any local or international association and become member thereof; and
• to do all such other things as are incidental or conductive to the achievement or betterment of the purposes of the
Association.
