Lab Report Sheet
Unit 7 Lesson 4
Fill in your observations from the lab results shown in the liver lab. Then follow the
following instructions to create your own enzyme activity lab.
Design your own Experiment
Use the decomposition reaction of hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by the catalase
enzyme in liver (the same reaction used in the liver lab) to design an experiment. Simply
outline how you would do your experiment. This experiment will investigate either the
effect of pH, temperature, substrate concentration, or a competitive inhibitor on the rate
of this enzyme catalyzed reaction. Remember that a good experiment will test only one
variable while all the other variables are controlled.
Include a clear statement of the question (your problem), a hypothesis, a materials list of
any reagents and/or equipment you will use, a description of the proposed procedure (step
by step instructions) including a suitable control, and an explanation of how you would
report your findings to your peers. Pick one variable listed above and design your
experiment changing only that single variable. For example, to test the effects of
temperature on this reaction use a range of temperatures such as 5, 15, 25, 35, 45, 55, and
65 degrees. (10 marks – 2 marks each for question, hypothesis, materials, procedure, and
reporting)
