Dolphin Splash
The Newspaper Club is proud to release the
first ever issue of the Dolphin Splash. Our group is
comprised of fourth and fifth grade students at
Nancy Young Elementary. These students have
researched, interviewed, and written all of the
articles for our paper. As a team, they have
designed and created this newspaper.

In October, Nancy Young Elementary School had fall
parties. All six grades got to have parties in their
classrooms. They all did different things. We can’t wait to
hear about what each grade did!
Super Scary Fall Parties
The kindergarteners had super scary fall parties. The classes played fun
games like musical dots and made pumpkins out of stickers. The class’s favorite
thing about the party was eating Oreos with orange cream. The kindergarteners’
favorite costumes at the parade were Taylor Swift, a boy as a cheerleader, Michael
Jackson, and the football player. Mrs. South had students dressed up as a fire
fighter and a wicked witch. There where five wonderful moms at each party. The
kindergartners enjoyed their first party!

2nd Grade’s Great Fall
Celebration
1st grade’s Fall Party
By: Aubree C. and Maddie M.
We had the 1st grade fall party on
October 29th in the afternoon. The first
graders made candy apples as their
craft. Ms. Eckert said, “Our favorite part
was making our craft because it was fun
to see our creativity.” They made the
candy apples out of a Styrofoam ball,
rolling them in red paint, and putting
glitter and beans on them to represent
sprinkles and nuts.
Not only did they make crafts, but
they played Pass the Pumpkin and they
read a story as a class. They had Oreos
and water as a snack and took a picture
of the class in their costumes. Some of
their favorite costumes were
bumblebees, pirates, Ghostbusters and
superheroes. It sounds like a jam-packed
day! 1st grade had a blast during the fall
party!

On October 29th, 2nd grade had
a fall party. They made a fun craft and
participated in a creative drawing game.
Students needed to add one accessory
to a drawn pumpkin on the white board.
The volunteer moms tried their best to
run the party smoothly.
At 2:00 P.M., they put on their
Halloween costumes. Ms. Jamieson’s
favorite part was seeing the variety of
costumes. The most creative costume
was tied between Ms. Jamieson, the
teacher’s apple, and Mrs. Szymanski, the
laundry basket. The whole party was a
blast!

Fun Fall Festivities!!!

On November 16, 2010 my friend and I interviewed Mrs. Meyer. We
asked her about the Fall Party 3rd grade had on October 29, 2010. They
did fun things! Some of the fun things they did were fall activity pages.
They also played Hangman.
Mrs. Meyer’s class munched on Oreo cookies while making creative
corn harvest crafts. Mrs. Meyer thought that a homemade skunk costume
and a homemade Alvin the Chipmunk costume popped out the most, but
she still loved the other ones. Mrs. Meyer hopes that next year’s party will
be as fun as this year’s party. Mrs. Meyer’s class had a superb Fall Party
this year!
The fourth
grade fall
party
The fourth grade party took place
on October 29th, 2010.
First, the fourth graders did
pumpkin science in the morning. Then,
they returned to their normal schedule
(with math cancelled) because of the
costume parade. Most of the kids wore
costumes. Some were the same and some
were different.
The fourth graders played a game
that involved passing gourds. When the
game ended, each kid got a gourd. They
could decorate the gourds with sequins,
googley eyes, feathers, pom-poms, and
string. While they were decorating their
gourds, they had Oreos for a snack and
a bottle of water.

Party
By Justin L. and Brady E.
The party was Friday, October
29th at two fifteen in the afternoon
in all the fifth grade classes. All the
fifth grade teachers were with their
students and the room volunteers.
The fifth grade classes made spider
webs with pipe cleaners, strings,
and spider rings. They ate Oreos
with orange cream and drank their
water bottles.
In Mrs. Ryan’s class, she got
wrapped in toilet paper like a
mummy. This was her favorite part.
She said she liked the party because
she had lots of fun after hard work.
Fifth grade teachers can’t wait to do
it again!

on this field trip to reinforce the

We interviewed Ms. Jamieson about
the 2 grade field trip at Kline Creek Farm.
“We made rope, saw farm animals, saw a
blacksmith, and some students got to pick
corn. They liked seeing a house from the
1800s,” Ms. Jamieson said. The 2nd graders
learned what jobs there were and what
families did for fun in each activity. Their
