CALL TO ARTISTS
- Reconstructing Tomorrow Northwest Youth Perspectives
2012 Northwest Folklife
Northwest Folklife is excited to announce a call to teen and young adult artists for a collaborative show
during the Northwest Folklife Festival, (May 25th-28th) at Ver(A)rt Gallery. This year, Folklife celebrates
Seattle Center’s “The Next 50” as part of the cultural focus - calling for the Northwest communities to
celebrate and contemplate what the next fifty years have in store. Our focus for this show incorporates a
youth perspective of the coming fifty years under the theme of Sustainability. We are looking for artists
of all mediums that can show work that engages and pulls the viewer into their unique perspective.
FOCUS TOPICS:
- Recycled Materials/Found Art
- Hybridity
- Convergence of Past and Future

THINGS TO KNOW:
In order to participate in this show, you will need to be present Thursday, May 24th to load in,
Monday, May 28th for the closing reception, and possibly Tuesday, May 29th 2pm-5pm for
additional load out time.
Artists will only have 1 day to install their work.
Ver(A)rt Gallery has limited space and there will be a high volume of foot traffic, so bulky or
particularly delicate work may not be suitable.
APPLICATION CHECKLIST:
Your full name, email, and phone number
3 – 10 images of your work (Images should be less than 3MB in size). Please label these in the
format of title_image number (e.g. Bridge_01 or Untitled_03), and be sure to include dimensions.
Video must be iTunes compatible.
Include the name of the artwork, the date of its creation, and the media used.
An artist biography or artist statement that gives some insight into your background and art
experience.
A brief piece of writing that explains your perspective or the perspective of the work you are
submitting. Also include in this how your art will engage viewers, and make them participants
within the story.
