Background information
SCM is a movement seeking to bring together students of all backgrounds to explore the Christian faith
in an open-minded and non-judgemental environment. SCM promotes a vision of Christianity that is
inclusive, aware, radical and challenging. The movement works to achieve these aims by:
• providing support and resources for student groups, individual students and university chaplains via
mailings, e-mail, website and visits;
• producing and distributing Movement magazine, newsletters and other publications and online
resources to encourage engagement with current theological, political and social justice issues;
• organising events, including termly gatherings and an annual conference that bring people together
and explore specific issues.
The staff team supports the national SCM network from the Birmingham office. The network is made up
of:
• student groups and chaplains;
• individual members - current students and older graduates;
• subscribers to Movement magazine;
• Friends - supporters who give regular financial support to the movement.
SCM is a student-led movement. General Council (GC) is the decision-making body of the movement,
and the trustees of the charity. Its elected members are either students or recent graduates. General
Council meets regularly to discuss the running of the movement.

Read the job description carefully.
The job description clearly outlines the duties you will be expected to undertake if appointed. The
person specification represents the most important qualities necessary to perform the job efficiently
and is used to ensure that the selection is undertaken in a fair and objective manner.
Think about:
What the job entails; what interests you about the job; and whether you fulfil the criteria on the person
specification.
Please type or use black ink as it makes it easier to photocopy.
