PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Manage and coordinate a mix of strategic projects and portfolios across the Division’s
priority areas of tobacco, skin cancer prevention, breast screening, cervical screening and
bowel cancer screening.
Manage develop and implement state-wide approaches to social marketing and public
education initiatives and campaigns working with internal and external stakeholders to
deliver a comprehensive and collaborative approach across the Division.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of social marketing
projects across screening and prevention; ensuring project elements are
undertaken effectively, within timeframes, and on budget whilst meeting agreed
targets and achieving appropriate outcomes

In collaboration with the Program and Portfolio Managers, develop, implement and
evaluate a range of social marketing and public education campaigns across print
media, digital media, social media and online aimed at screening and prevention
programs and portfolios. In collaboration with Program and Portfolio Managers
and as required lead and or participate in the development of program strategy.

As relevant and related to portfolio or projects manager day to day operations and
budget.

Work with the Manager, Cancer Prevention to identify new / innovative
approaches in social marketing and recruitment for screening and prevention
portfolio areas

Liaise and develop, maintain and foster effective working relationships and
collaborations with CI staff, working groups and cross government stakeholders,

experts, peak bodies and advocacy groups to enable effective communication and
information sharing, manage expectations, ensure successful strategy / project
delivery and identify opportunities for screening and prevention in priority
populations and settings

Act as the subject matter expert and media spokesperson as required on
screening and prevention projects, including evidence, strategies, policy and
emerging issues

Work with the Division’s strategic research, evaluation and monitoring team to
inform, monitor and report against portfolio performance

Provide policy advice and prepare or contribute to the preparation of reports,
correspondence, briefings and responses to parliamentary questions relating to
screening and prevention priorities Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to
project staff assigned to social marketing and policy projects Support the
implementation of Equal Employment Opportunity and Work Health and Safety
policies and procedures, the Ethnic Affairs Priorities and ethical practices within
the Institute.
CHALLENGES/PROBLEM SOLVING

Managing a diverse group of stakeholders and leveraging their support to develop
and deliver a state-wide social marketing strategy and projects for screening and
prevention

Achieving deadlines and milestones to the required standards and targets within
budget, whilst coordinating and supporting the management of multiple
collaborative screening and prevention projects and campaigns.

Working to improve health in hard to reach and priority populations including
Aboriginal, culturally and linguistically diverse, low SES and rural and regional
populations.

Tailoring the key messages from prevention research evidence to the target
group, while also ensuring the 'language' used in materials produced is
meaningful for different audiences
DECISION MAKING
The Prevention Portfolio Coordinator, is expected to operate with a high level of
autonomy in respect to their day to day activities and is fully accountable for:

Development and implementation of the state-wide strategies and the project
management of prevention and screening initiatives and social marketing and
promotion campaigns

Evaluation of the effectiveness of implemented social marketing and promotion
initiatives and campaigns

Quality of advice, recommendations and reports provided to internal and external
stakeholders

Liaising and problem solving with internal / external stakeholders to minimise
portfolio and project risks and resolve issues.
The position will refer to the Manager, Cancer Prevention:

Any decision which will substantially alter the outcomes, timeframe or budgets of
individual projects

Any decision which will substantially impact on organisational policy or team
operations

Any conflicts arising in the course of project or stakeholder liaison duties, and

Any matters which require a higher delegated authority.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE/SELECTION CRITERIA

Tertiary qualifications in public health, health promotion, marketing or
communication or equivalent experience

Demonstrated ability to gather, critically analyse, synthesise, interpret and translate
evidence into practice, policy advice and public education materials

Demonstrated broad understanding of population health, health promotion and
social marketing principles and practice

Sound understanding of the NSW and Commonwealth health systems

Proven stakeholder engagement skills with a demonstrated ability to build strong
working relationships with stakeholders in the government and non-government
sectors.

Demonstrated influencing, consultation, conflict resolution, negotiation and problem
solving skills

Strong organisational and self-management skills and demonstrated ability to plan,
prioritise and manage competing tasks, meet deadlines and achieve targets

Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to develop
education materials for diverse audiences
