The Endwright Center is pleased to be adding and expanding programs. The ideas come from
our members, volunteers and staff. The Arts Program will continue thanks to a grant from
Indiana Arts Commission and Brown County Community Foundation. This quarter we are
bringing back Folklore and Ethnomusicology, Therapeutic massages have expanded to the
3rd and 4th Tuesday of each month and our newest program is a class on Apple iPhones and
iPads. Watch for a special newsletter for our December programs and events.

Certified yoga instructors, Lee-Ann Assalone and Kristen Londergan invites you to carve out some time just for you, let go of
stress and experience the peace that comes with gentle stretching and connecting with your breath. Any and all ability levels are
welcome to experience chair or floor yoga (bring your own mat or borrow one of ours). You’ll experience the healing, calming
and physical benefits that result from the practice of yoga.
About the Instructors: Lee-Ann Assalone came to yoga in search of a balm for stress and anxiety. What she found not only reminded her of
what peace feels like, but also offered rehabilitation after a broken bone, comfort for her grief and a welcomed boost to her confidence.
Kristin Londergan is passionate about the simple and powerful concepts yoga has to offer everyone. She teaches yin, vinyasa, restorative, and
yoga for stress relief as well as meditation. Her aim is to teach folks how to use these ancient tools on their own to heal and stay in balance in
our fast-paced, hectic world.
TAI CHI

Tai Chi is a program which improves flexibility, muscle strength, balance as well as increases energy and metabolism. It is also
known to decrease anxiety and allow improved breathing. Being a form of movement with intention developed centuries ago in
China, it has been used as a martial art as well as a meditative practice. Please support the Endwright Center by paying per
session rather than per class. Watch for a beginners class starting in January 2016!
About the Instructor: Margret Kingrey, MA, OTR, is a certified instructor for Tai Chi for Health from Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health Institute
since 2009. Dr. Lam’s program is internationally recognized, as well as by the Arthritis Foundation and the American Diabetes Association.
Prior to becoming a certified Tai Chi instructor, Margret practiced occupational therapy for over 35 years in a variety of settings. She is currently
a licensed occupational therapist in Indiana and Massachusetts.
BALANCE CLASSES

Falling is currently the number one cause of serious injury in older adults, therefore, good balance is an extremely important
aspect of maintaining an active lifestyle as we age. Fortunately, balance can be improved through a variety of strength, flexibility,
and stability exercises. This class will teach and reinforce basic skills to help maintain and improve balance in order to prevent
the occurrence of falls. Therabands and dumbbells along with many body weight exercises, will be used to help strengthen
muscles associated with balance and coordination and increase stabilization.
About the Instructor: Tricia Oxford is currently attending IU working on her Master’s of Public Health with a projected graduation in the Spring
of 2016. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fitness Specialist with a minor in Public Health Coaching. She is certified by the American
Council on Exercise as a Personal Trainer and Functional Movement Screener.
ONE-ON-ONE FITNESS TRAINING
Tuesdays, 1:00 pm-1:45 pm and Thursdays, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.-1:45 p.m.
Cost: Free to Members
Meet your own personal fitness goals! Learn to strengthen your body, regain stability and balance. Designed for all levels, you
will learn the benefits of weight machines, bands, balls and your own body weight. One-on-one training educates you on correct
use of form and posture for a variety of exercises. Prevent injury and learn to be active daily while staying safe!
THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
Appointments available Tuesdays—October 20, October 27, November 17 and December 15 between 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Cost: $30 per 1/2 hour.
Designed to meet the specific needs of an older population, eldercare massage involves using hands to manipulate the soft
tissues of the body to improve blood circulation, relieve pain and increase range of motion. Therapeutic massage can help you
regain physical functions, relieve anxiety or depression, improve lymphatic flow, and improve the length and quality of sleep.
About the Instructor: After retiring from 25 years of service at Indiana University, Cheryl Gucinski started massage school and has earned a
degree in Integrative Health Massage. She is certified by the state of Indiana and has been practicing massage therapy with a specialty in
senior care since January of 2009.To schedule one-on-one fitness training or therapeutic massage, please call the Endwright Center at

WELLNESS SCREENINGS
Thursday, November 13th, 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
Well screenings provided by IU Health, including:
 Blood pressure checks (Free)
 Diabetes screenings via A1c blood draw (Free)
 Cholesterol Test via blood draw. The cholesterol test requires a 12 hour fast. ($20, or $15 with IU Health Bloomington
Hospital Plus Card)
Flu shots will also be available, both regular and high dose. Insurance can be billed, including Medicare. If not billing insurance,
the cost is $25 for regular and $40 for high dose. The high dose flu shots are the recommended flu vaccine for people age 65
and older.

ARTS WITH CASSIDY
About the Instructor: Cassidy Young is a vibrant artist as well as a patient and enthusiastic instructor. She was born
and raised along the Pacific Coast of California where she developed her varied creative abilities. She received her Bachelor’s
Degree in art studio from the University of California, Santa Barbara and has recently received her Master’s Degree in art
education from Indiana University. She is interested in providing relevant, playful, and engaging classes to artists of all ages and
skill levels.
Outdoor Art for All Mediums
2 Day Workshop. Thursday, October 15, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at The Endwright Center and
Friday, October 16, 9:00 a.m. the group will meet at an outdoor park to be decided upon.
Cost: $10 Members/$20 Non-members
No matter your preferred medium—oils, watercolor, acrylic, or pastel—making art outside of
the studio can be wonderful, frustrating, and confusing. This workshop will help artists of all
skill levels take that first step into the great outdoors. We will go over Plein air tools, picking
sights to work, choosing a subject, making value sketches, planning, and getting down to
work. We will explore the work of several Indiana Plein air artists and help you become
comfortable making art En Plein Air.
Watercolor for Everyone
Thursdays, October 29-December 10, 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Cost: $20 Members/$40 Non-members
The focus will be on finding your style through the use of watercolor texturizing tools, effects,
and newer watercolor materials. We will review designing compositions, color theory, and
technique but also push our sketching and planning processes to create more bold and
dynamic art work. All skill levels are welcome.
Pressless, Painless Printmaking and Collage
Mondays, November 9—November 16, 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
Cost: $15 Members/$30 Non-members
In this class, participants have the opportunity to play with several printmaking techniques
sure to end with interesting results. You will get a chance to try screen printing, linoleum and
collograph printing, as well as fun and expressive jelly prints and mono prints. Participants
will create a huge amount of work then learn design techniques for creating cards,
frameable art, and decoupaging objects.
FIBER ARTS SHOW
Monday-Friday, October 19—November 20, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Come visit the Fiber Arts Show at the Endwright Center. Many individual artists’ work will be displayed during this period.
Appreciate the fine art of crochet, needlepoint, tatting, and quilting projects. You can become an artist as well by learning the
skills and techniques by joining the Fiber Arts Group that meets every Monday afternoon from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Meet the artist on Monday, October 26th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. during a small reception gathering of cookies and tea (or coffee).
BASIC QUILLING: CIRCLES, SHAPES AND SCROLLS
Wednesdays, November 4—18, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 pm
Cost: Free to Members/$15 Non-members
Quilling, or “paper filigree”, is the craft of curling, bending and arranging small strips of paper
to create beautiful and detailed artwork. While the origins of quilling are somewhat unknown,
history does tell us that quilling became popular in Europe in the late eighteenth century.
Today quilling is a relaxing and rewarding hobby and easy to learn. Once you learn the basic
circles, shapes and scrolls you will create gift cards, ornaments, and learn other creative
ways to use your acquired skill.
About the Instructor: “Chip” Chipico Martin has been instructing art and craft programs at the Endwright Center for many years. She
and her daughter enjoy crafting with a variety of media. Chip encourages creativity and often begins with the basic skills of a craft follow
by completing a project.
BRAIDING WIRE CLOTHES HANGERS
Wednesday, October 21, 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Cost: Free
Carroll Schunn will teach a class on braiding wire clothes hangers with yarn. Supplies will be
provided. These braided clothes hangers make a great gift or for use with your own clothes to

Our Intermediate Guitar class is going strong! Beyond basic chords, we also work
on melodies, scales and improvising. This class is for folks who have played before
or are looking to improve on skills already acquired. We sing a lot too! Join us!
About the Instructor: Nathan Dillon has the experience, understanding and enthusiasm that enable him to provide
excellent musical skills to variety of students at all ages. Born in Alabama and raised in the Smoky Mountains of East
Tennessee, Nathan grew up surrounded by a wide range of musical styles. “The house was filled with classical music and when
I stepped out my door there was bluegrass, country, rock… It was a very special musical childhood.” He attended the Jacobs
School of Music studying Jazz and Classical guitar performance before leaving for the New York and Brooklyn Academy of
Music in 2003 where he also focused on guitar. He is the Founder and Director of Everybody Rocks, which brings music
classes to people of all walks of life throughout Chicago land and southern Indiana.

Memories can get fuzzy as we age, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Regularly challenging ourselves with fun mental exercises
keeps our minds running on all four cylinders. Stacey Goffinet will lead participants in playing trivia games, solving puzzles and
other fun activities to maintain a sharp focus and better memory retention. Games and puzzles are among the best ways to
maintain active and productive use of all our mental faculties.
COOKING FOR FUN

“Cooking as a Hobby” with Self -Taught Doc Hornick. Doc enjoys cooking and it has become a hobby as he explores healthy
nutritional food. As an Eagle Scout and scouting experience he may even gives us a lesson in cooking on open fires or the
grill. Doc has lived in the area for 40 years and contributed to the community by previously serving as Governor of Kiwanis for
the State of Ohio, and President of the Downtown Kiwanis. He was active with Sports Programs at Edgewood Schools and the
Ellettsville Fall Festival. In September, Doc shared his skills and knowledge by making Chicken Stir-Fry with great tips on
ingredients to use or substitutes that can be done.
COOKING FOR ONE

Cooking for One is sponsored by the Area 10 Agency Nutrition Program. Laura Kray, nutrition program manager, focuses on
healthy, easy to prepare meals that can be served in small amounts or conveniently stored. Guest teachers and topic
suggestions are welcome. The class is free to participants. We gratefully accept donations to help fund our free classes and
programs. Look for posters in the Endwright Center that feature the recipe of the month!
FOLKLORE AND ETHNOMUSICOLOGY
Thursdays, October 8—October 29, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

October 8—Cajun Folklore and Ethnomusicology: With all the diverse cultures in the world, it’s important to remember that there
are traditions worth learning about in our very own country! This class will discuss the music, legends, food and festivals in the
Cajun culture.
October 15—Irish Folklore and Ethnomusicology: Have you ever dreamed of visiting the rolling hills of Ireland? In this class, we
will explore Irish culture including music, dance, and fairy lore. This class was so popular in June we are repeating it for the
second time.
October 22—Folklore of Monsters: Every culture has things that go bump in the night. If you like telling scary stories around a
campfire or consider yourself a horror movie buff, this class is for you! Come learn what people around the world have to say
about vampires, werewolves, bigfoot, and other ghouls and goblins.
October 29—Native American Folklore and Ethnomusicology: Are you curious about the many tribes in North America? This
class will explore the practices, beliefs, and celebrations of the first Americans.

APPLE IPHONE & IPAD BASICS (NEW OFFERING!)
Mondays, October 19, November 16

Cost: $5.00, Limit of 8 per class.
Dan McKee, computer services volunteer designed a class for learning the basics on iPhone and iPad. The training will include
what all the buttons do, Home Screen - arranging icons and what’s up with the White Dots. Learn basic rules of using your
iDevice and explore the basic settings for airplane mode, Wi Fi Setup, mail, contacts calendars and the special Touch ID &
Passcode. After a short break, continue the training for using Safari and Maps and see a Siri Demonstration on texting, emailing,
searching and directions (GPS).
COMPUTER TUTORING
Cost: $5.00
Computer tutors will work one-on-one with seniors who want to learn basic
computer skills such as Microsoft Word, E-mail, Facebook, Skype, and how to
access games on the computer. A desktop computer is available for training
but students are encouraged to bring their own laptop. Call to make your
reservation for a tutoring session.

Have a Smartphone, Tablet, Laptop, or Desktop Computer? Learn how to use it to access free high-demand books
and movies. While print books and DVDs aren’t going away anytime soon, there’s more and more great media
available online, and just as you can borrow physical books and discs for free from your library, so too can you
borrow digital downloads, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Library staff will show you how to register, search, and
download these items using your library account. If you own a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, please bring it so we
can get you set up with the required apps.
To utilize this available service, individuals are required to have an MCPL account. We can create a library card on the spot for
any Monroe County resident that doesn't have one, assuming they have appropriate ID. Bring Drivers license if you want to sign
up. This new program will be provided by Monroe County Public Library and the Special Audiences Strategist.
EUCHRE CLUB
Tuesdays, 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., Cost: Free
Do you enjoy playing Euchre? Come and enjoy a Tuesday afternoon playing Euchre at the Endwright Center. Players are
welcome and encouraged to bring snacks to share with the group. No need to have another person to sign up with you.
Members of the Euchre Club work out the day of games by circulating when there are extra people. On the second Tuesday of
each month, the Euchre Club holds a potluck from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
SINGLE SENIORS CLUB
October 14th 3:00 p.m.—Dinner at Golden Corral.
Oct 28th 1:00-2:00 p.m.—Endwright Center meet Sandy and learn about the group which is followed by dinner at Golden Corral.

FIBER ARTS CLUB
Mondays, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., Cost: Free
Join this afternoon group for help on a fiber arts project or keep your hands busy on a project you are working on while
socializing with others. Participants include both genders who are busy doing counted cross-stitch projects, quilting, knitting and
crocheting. The individual members in the Fiber Arts Club are also willing to teach you crocheting, needlepoint, cross-stitch,
quilting or other fiber art skills. Join this great group to learn a new hobby or work on your current projects. Please join us!
MAH JONGG CLUB
Thursdays, 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., Cost: Free
American National Mah Jongg began as a learning class in August of this
year by a team of volunteer coaches led by Sandra Blackwell. We are
excited to be continuing this group on a weekly basis. We currently have six
players who have learned the game and want to continue. We can play Mah
Jongg with 3 players but would like to have enough players to make teams of

registration required—but we’d like to have you contact us if you are
interested in being a participant in the group.
