In a typed response of at least 2.5 pages analyze Hamlet’s first soliloquy (1.2.135-165, “O that this
too too solid/sullied flesh…”); what does Hamlet’s speech reveal about the character, personality and
motives of Hamlet? Be sure to discuss how elements such as images, figurative language,
diction (word choice), and syntax (sentence structure, punctuation) contribute to meaning.
