Proposed broad area of research
Currently I am pursing PhD in Biotechnology from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal,
Haryana. I have done my Masters in Biotechnology subject and worked as a Senior Research Fellow at
Division of Animal Reproduction, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, Bareilly.
During my M.Sc. dissertation work I have given the opportunity to take the work on the effect
of pesticide on the fertility of buffalo. I have to choose the model system for this study. I have chosen
the in vitro culture system for oocyte and sperm and treated them with different concentration of
pesticide. This model system gives data that is enough to confer the result. So by the type of
experiment that I have met during my dissertation work I got to know that how to use the model
system to study the effect of xenobiotics.
When I was SRF, i was working on physiological aspects of reproduction in buffalo. I was
studying the changes in hormonal and signalling molecules concentration during early pregnancy in
buffalo. The model system is again in vitro culture of cells that secrets the signalling molecules. In
spite of putting all the condition same by our best knowledge this is not totally true at physiologically
level but it may resembles and we can confer the results.
So there should be a good model system. I strongly put my knowledge to develop a
suitable model system to study the effect of different treatment in scientific experiment. This is a
very necessary step to start any experiment.
I have also worked on gene level. The gene was Pregnancy associate glycoprotein (PAG) that
is responsible for the early pregnancy recognition in buffalo. The idea behind this gene study is to
know the activity of gene responsible for the change in physiology. By correlating the activity of genes
to its product we can evaluate the expression profile of that gene. So at molecular level we can say
that, this gene’s activity is more at this time or less at this time. Therefore, molecular mechanisms
underlying these phenomena and their interrelationship can provide insight for developing new
strategies
In my view by understanding the basic science of physiology, we can understand the cascade
of process from gene to protein level. Once if we understood the correct pathway we would pick
out that defective gene or proteins that are responsible for abnormalities. After that we can
make corresponding strategies to deal those abnormalities.
