Root: gives the essential meaning of the term.
Suffix: is the word ending.
Prefix: is the small word part added to the beginning of a term.
Combining vowel: connects roots to suffixes and roots to other roots.
Combining form: is the combination of the root and combining vowel.
Directions: Using Rule #1, combine the combining form and suffix to create a correctly spelled medical
term. Create your own medical terms for the blank rows.
RULE #1: Drop the combining vowel before a suffix that starts with a vowel.
Example: bi/o + -opsy = biopsy
