Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGE&Y) UK & Ireland
saves £1.5 million with HP Managed Office Services
for Imaging and Printing.
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Group is one of world’s
largest management and IT consultancies, employing
in excess of 50,000 people in more than 30
countries. It has global revenues exceeding a7 billion.
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young helps businesses around
the world implement growth strategies and make best
use of technology but when it scrutinised its own UK
operation, it found that action was needed much
closer to home.
With 936 printers of 18 different types (many up to
nine years old) spread over 15 offices and a
printer/person ratio of 1:3, its print environment
needed to be rationalised and for that, CGE&Y
chose HP.
Better understanding
“We wanted to provide the same service with fewer
devices offering better performance,” said Andrew
Roberts, senior manager at CGE&Y UK plc, who was
tasked with procuring a new solution. “We also
wanted to learn more about the printing environment
we had and, in particular, the cost of ownership.

“We had discussions with various vendors including HP. We chose HP because of the level of
detail included in its services proposal and the range of quality devices it could offer.”
Managed solution
As a result of an output fleet rationalisation, CGE&Y replaced 700 old printers with 498 new
machines giving it a far more efficient 1:10 printer/person ratio. The equipment is provided
under a three year managed print contract with CGE&Y paying a fixed amount for a total endto-end print solution.
“The beauty of managed print is that we are able to provide a brand new, state of the art
printing fleet to our offices with no capital investment,” added Roberts. “Plus, we can print on
average 40 per cent more copies with the original HP toner cartridges which we now buy at
only a fraction more than we used to pay for recycled cartridges.”
Big savings
The managed solution has also given CGE&Y a clearer visibility of its print fleet and a better
understanding of what it costs. The reliability and efficiency of the HP printers has also allowed
to increase productivity, reduce downtime and reduce the number of helpdesk calls received.
