Dear Parent/Guardian,

In August 2011, the Ontario Ministry of Education expanded its Homework Help pilot program to all 60 English-language boards across Ontario. Starting in September 2011, all

600,000 English-language math students in Grades 7 to 10 had access to live, interactive online math help. This program continued last year and is continuing again this year.

Homework Help is free, real-time, and anonymous math tutoring by certified Ontario teachers. Students can log in from Sunday to Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. EST for 20 hours a week of individualized confidential math tutoring. Students can: join discussion rooms for their grade; see what questions other students are asking; watch tutors draw on the whiteboard; and ask their own question for on-the-spot help.

Students will also have 24/7 access to both guided and independent learning in a unique environment that combines technology and personal interaction. In addition to live

“Ask a Tutor” rooms, students have access to videos of best tutorials and commonly asked questions. Other online math resources include math games and a virtual locker, where students can save their work.

In order to fully participate in live “Ask a Tutor” sessions, the following private information about your child will be provided to the Independent Learning Centre (ILC)**:

 Ontario Educational Number (OEN)

 Birth date

 Grade

 Mathematics Course Code (e.g. MFM 1P)

** It should be noted that the ILC, through the constituting legislation of the Ontario Educational

Communications Authority, has the authority to collect, use, or require the OEN for purposes related to providing educational services which in this case is the services of after-school Homework Help.

** The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) is the organization that the Ontario Ministry of Education has designated and accredited as their official distance education provider.

If for any reason, you do not wish your child's private information to be shared with the ILC, please inform your school principal as soon as possible. If the above information is not provided to the ILC, it will not be possible for your child to be enrolled in the Homework

Help Program at this time.

We look forward to your child participating in this exciting program.
