Using Your I’s for Education

Educational Apps

•   Purpose : The purpose of this break out session is to share with you the use of some iPhone and iPad apps and other sites that could be useful to you in health science classes.

•   And to have you in turn share with us any

apps we missed that you

•   find useful.

Educational Apps

•   Common Core Standards App —this is a free app that lets you view the common core standards

•   Side By Side app —lets you split your

IPad screen into two to four separate windows so you can browse and take notes or import text or other tasks

— This app lets you create Word and Power point documents on the iPad; it is also good for working with math equations using Equation

Editor.

•   Doceri—http://doceri.com

— this free app

will let you or your students control

your smart board from an iPad. You

can use tools to create graphics,

presentations, record them and more.

•   Another app for creating the iPad as a white board is Educreations . It is FREE.

•   Essential to this being used in the classroom of course would be having an

Apple TV so you can connect your iPad to the projector.

•   Splash Top app allows you to connect with other computers. The trick is that both computers must be on. You can view what your students are doing on their computers when they are working on them. And you can view and work on your

•   school computer at home as long as it

has not timed out or you have to turn it

off when you leave school.

•   Lab Timer —allows you to input up to sixteen timers and run them

) can be turned into an icon on your iPad and becomes an app.

•   Find a web site that you go to often. Type in the URL. Look at the top left. Hit the box with an arrow coming out of the top

and click on add to Home Screen.

•   Dragon Dictation allows you to talk and your voice dictates words onto a document.

•   Monster Anatomy Lower Limb Lite—http:// monstermindsmedia.fr/ or monster mind media sas –this version of Monster Anatomy is free. You can upgrade for a price ($18.99) and get the foot and hand.

•   iHeart Touch —This app allows you to

•   view a real heart in action and then look

•   inside the major vessels of the heart to

watch arteriosclerosis develop.

•   Visual Anatomy Lite enables either you or the student to pinpoint areas within the anatomy of the human by systems as well as having a quiz area.

•   My Heart Rate —This app actually seems to work better with the IPhone. It will take your heart rate and respiratory rate

•   Cardiograph —is an app that allows you to do a rudimentary ECG right on your iPhone or iPad.

•   Skull Viewer by Bone Box —is another app that lets you visualize the skull from all different angles with a touch of your finger.

•   It is fascinating. You can do the same

•   with the brain at 3D Brain .

•   iTriage —this app is a symptom checker as well as having an up-to-date listing of medications with side effects and use, etc.; it also has a condition and procedural listing.

•   SCDF First Aid —is a possible app for a use by the student. It has a simplistic training on first aid for the major events and it has a game mode. You can also get

Fire Safety and CPR apps. It is from

Singapore and the speaker is very British.

•   Remind 101 - Use this app to remind your students about important assignments, test and quiz due dates. Could also be used for HOSA meeting reminders. You can send one text to all your students in one class and keep your privacy at the same time. They don’t have to know your phone number and you don’t have to know theirs.

•   Most of us have Skype on our cell phones or iPads. What about using the Apple TV and your Skype app to bring experts who are too far away from your school to readily visit into your classroom!

•   Vision Test - Students can test their vision for visual acuity, astigmatism, and several other tests including a color test. Caution students that this does not replace going to a real doctor for an eye vision test.

•   Show Me – Learn or teach anything. App that has a voice recorder and a white board. You can use it to explain math problems or teach a lesson. Some videos are already available that are useful.

•   Med Term Scramble by Pearson - free app, a game used to study medical terminology, both vocabulary and spelling.

•   Medical Terminology Hangman – Like the traditional Hangman game but with medical terminology. Could also be used

•   for practicing medical terminology.

•   Pharmacy apps are numerous and quite useful in teaching a pharmacy technician course. Now that students can bring their cell phones and other technology into the classroom, use their apparatuses to teach.

•   Go to the app store and just type in the

•   word “pharmacy” or “drugs”.

•   CNA Study Guide is free.

•   CNA Flash Cards ($3.99)

•   CMA Study Guide ($1.99) is not expensive

•   One site would be wonderful but it is in

German.

•   The site I liked best was Medical Assistant by Ion Citadel ($1.99). It is highly rated.
