Writing Persuasive Speech

For some people, healthy eating is a way of life, while others
are ignorant of the facts, or simply choose not to follow a
healthy diet.
Your school principal has embarked on a healthy
eating programme, and wants to educate all
the learners about healthy eating habits and
balanced diets.
One of the products that the principal is most
interested in, is tinned fish because of the
benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. These essential
fatty acids help with brain function and
memory, which is vital for learners.
Write a persuasive speech covering the topics
below:
• The health benefits of eating fish (focusing on Omega-3 Fatty Acids)
• The testing, production and labelling of fish in order to adhere to food hygiene standards
• Recipe suggestions
The speech must be between 100 and 120 words in length.

When writing a persuasive text, remember that the aim is to try and persuade
someone to understand your point of view. Choose words that are emotive and
speak directly to the audience.
Make use of the writing process to ensure that your speech is effective and has a
good summative ending. Make use of a mind map or brainstorm ideas to develop
the structure of the speech. This way you will present a logical speech which
expresses ideas and concepts clearly and succinctly.
