POSITION SUMMARY
The Security Operations Director is responsible for managing and monitoring of all of the operational security systems as
defined as technical closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, access control, fire alarm monitoring, burglar alarm
monitoring to ensure efficient services are designed to protect the assets of the Atlanta Public Schools. The Director is
also responsible for performing back up support to ensure that continual operation of all life safety systems are
maintained and operational at all times, and coordinating efforts to maintain the integrity of the associated security
applications, monitoring, and response personnel. The Security Operations Director will manage and assign time entry
and workflow duties of the Security Technical team to achieve and maintain operating efficiency. The Security Operations
Director is responsible for providing strategic planning and visioning in the area of district security, and reports to the
Executive Director of Safety & Security.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field is required;
Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field is preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
 Valid Driver’s License is required.
 Microsoft Certified Professional, preferred
 Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Specialist (CPTED) is a strong plus.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
 3 – 5 years of experience in a technical field is required, to include information technology.
 Help Desk management experience is a plus; experience with trouble ticket/help desk software is a strong plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
 Ability to supervise, manage and direct subordinates.
 Ability to multi-task and adapt to a continually changing business/work environment and manage conflicting
priorities.
 Ability to apply, recommend, and implement highly advanced technology concepts to improve organizational
efficiency and effectiveness.
 Knowledge of Homeland Security/FEMA/GEMA requirements, state, county and municipal in relations to
emergency management.
 Ability to make recommendations or decisions which usually affect the assigned department, but may at times
affect operations, services, individuals, or activities outside of the assigned department.
 Ability to establish broad objectives and to identify potential resources for assistance; independent judgment is
required.
 Requires regular contact within department and other departments.
 May require regular external contact with outside agencies, the general public, and with vendors.
 Knowledge of systems development process, computer troubleshooting techniques and operation.
 Knowledge of computer and network operating systems.
 Knowledge of job operations scheduling and work control language.
 Ability to read and work from floor plans, layouts and schematics.
 Ability to use and have general maintenance knowledge of a computer system and peripheral and the operations
of communications network/telephone system.
 Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work flexible hours, evenings and staggered shifts, holidays and weekends and/or in emergency
situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Maintain a high level of professional standards, training, and ethics to respond to emergency and non-emergency
support and service calls.
2. Provide a strategic plan and vision in the area of district security, including but not limited to security systems,
security technology and security protocols.
3. Coordinate the establishment of employee goals, objectives, and call metrics. Perform regular and on-time
service desk employee evaluations, corrective action plans, coaching, and mentoring; actively participate in the
screening of employees for the technical service desk / dispatch monitoring to ensure candidates meet posted
requirements.
4. Utilize established tools and technology systems to ensure staff’s weekly time entry is posted, work orders are
accurately entered and processed, and supplies are ordered. Ensure tasks and projects in the related area are
competed on-time and within scope.
5. Prepare departmental reports to ensure that all parties are up to date with pertinent information.
6. Provide training, orientation, and technical assistance to employees in the use of various applications and systems
utilized by the department. Assist with systems incident management; and maintain records of functions assigned
to staff and workstations.
7. Maintain effective communication with all Atlanta Public Schools employees, contractors, and authorized vendors
through the timely preparation and response to verbal and written documents, meeting requests, email, phone
calls, text messages, etc.
8. Assist in the coordination and automation of security-related data forms, web interfaces, and information
transmission for the department as required.
9. Maintain effective written and oral communication with supervisor.
10. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor to include working flexible hours, evenings,
staggered shifts, rotating schedules, holidays, weekends and in emergency situations. (e.g., academic/athletic
events, Spring/Winter Breaks, etc.)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ADA REQUIREMENTS
 Primarily works in an office environment; typically sitting at desk or table.
 Occasionally may work in confined areas, stockroom, closets, etc., above and below ground level.
