Course Description
This laboratory course will enable students to investigate careers in fashion spanning all aspects of the textile and
apparel industries. In addition to developing technical knowledge and skills needed for success in Fashion Design,
students will be expected to develop and understand multiple fabric construction techniques. Students will keep a
design portfolio that will continue to expand in Advanced Fashion Design the following year. (Credit: 1)
SCOPE AND SEQUENCE:
First Six Weeks:
*Safety
*Demonstrate appropriate use, selection and
care of equipment
*Display comprehension of tools and notion
*Construction- Pin Cushion Box
Second Six Weeks:
*Identify basic Body Types
*Dress A Girl Around The WorldCommunity Service Project
*Determine clothing silhouettes & fabric
selections appropriate for specific body types
*Pajama Pants
Third Six Weeks:
Apply knowledge of fibers, fabrics & design
*Analyze properties of natural &
manufactured fibers
*Fleece Scarf
*World Fashion Trends Research Paper

Grading
Application =50% Class work (Daily work and quizzes)
Assessment =40% Test and Projects (2 per 6-weeks)
Homework = 10% participation
Semester Exams 20% of semester grade
