REINFORCED CONCRETE DESIGN II
5. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This Course is directed to Civil Engineering students with a basic knowledge in
the field of Reinforced Concrete Design. The course pertains to provide the
students with the knowledge required to design reinforced concrete columns
under pure axial load, eccentrically loaded columns under axial flexion and biaxial flexion; 1direction and 2-directions reinforced concrete slabs; slabs
supported over the ground; different types of shallow foundations; and
foundations supported over piles. Finally, the course provides the students with
tools required to detail structural plans.

6. SPECIFIC GOALS FOR THE COURSE
At the end of the course, students will be capable to:
1) Design the reinforcement of short and slender columns; and slabs.
2) Design Footings, spread footings regarding design factors, loads, contact
pressures and geometry.
3) Apply the criterions learned to elaborate structural plans involving detailing of
columns, slabs and foundations.
