I Love Lucy debuted on October
15,1951 at 9PM. The main
characters of the show are Lucy and
Ricky Ricardo, and their neighbors
Fred and Ethel Mertz. I Love Lucy is
shown in 77 countries and in 22
languages. It was the first show
shot on a 35mm film. In the 50’s
fans of the show could buy living
room and bedroom furniture
patterned after the furniture on the
show. When the episode of the
Ricardo’s baby boy aired more
people watched that than the
coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

like The Escape Artist in
1982. He also appeared in
television shows and even
Saturday Night Live in 1976.Desi
died December 2, 1986 in Del Mar
California from lung cancer.

William Frawley played Fred Mertz in I

Mertz. He was born
February 26, 1887
in Burlington, Iowa.
He was married to
Edna Broedt from
1914-1927. His major
risk factor was
alcoholism. William
played in a lot of movies including East
Side, West Side from 1949 where he
played Billy the Bartender. Also, Miracle
on 34th Street from 1947 where he
played Charles Halloran. He died March
3, 1966 in Hollywood, California from
heart failure.

Facts
The Honeymooners first aired as a skit
on October 5,1951 on Jackie Gleason’s
Cavalacade of Stars. The first three
titles were The Lovers, The Couple
Next Door, and The Beast. Also, Alice
Kramden was originally played by Pert
Kelton then replaced by Audrey
Meadows. The cartoon The Flinstones
was based off The Honeymooners. The
sets were made of painted cardboard.
The main kitchen/living room set was
only 20-by-30 feet.

Art Carney played Edward Norton, who
