Executive Director Activities
I have communicated with Mr. Matt Brown of Ed Tech Partners. He has shared an
email marketing approach. That email was shared with Superintendents and College
Deans. I appreciate Mr. Brown sharing this discount/fund raising opportunity with LASS.
LASS Grants
We have spent time researching newly identified funders for our non-profit.

Thursday we will submit a grant request to Lilly Foundation for $359,922 to purchase
Inquiry Science Kits for nine LASS, Inc. elementary schools. Due before Jan 1, 2011.
The new overarching theme for new grant proposal will be to build Twenty
First Century Skills using the framework from Tony Wagner's book - The Global
Achievement Gap.
Here are the seven survival skills:
--critical thinking/problem solving
--collaboration/leading by influence
--agility and adaptability
--initiative and entrepreneurialism
--effective oral and written communication
--accessing and analyzing information
--curiosity and imagination
LASS Balanced Literacy – The baseline data graph is a good trend snap shot for
schools within the research project. I am thankful to the time Dr. Shutay has allowed for
the BLI Research Project. I am appreciative to Mrs. Suki Monroe Glasser for her
December presentation to the board. Dr. Lester Leminack has signed the letter of
commitment and he will be coming to the lakeshore the week of April 18, 2011.
Selection of school sites and specific agenda will be shared at future board meetings.
Lakeshore High School Project - USDOE Smaller Learning Communities Grant
The new DOE web tool for reporting will open January 25, 2011 with several reports
due on Friday, February 11, 2011 for Year 2 and mid-Year 3.
The next Steering Committee meeting is Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Tri-Creek
School Corporation at 1:00 p.m.

As the year is drawing to a close, much effort is being put into preparations for all the
grant reporting required to the DOE in 2011. ISTEP+ data was collected, analyzed and
reported to be used as baseline data for the BLI research project. LHSP budget
information is being reconciled for the SLC APR that will be reported to the USDOE.
