Requirements for a Hardship Waiver
The Hardship Waiver is not to be confused with a redshirt season. In fact, a “medical redshirt” does not actually exist. The requirements for processing a Hardship Waiver are as follows: 1) An incapacita ng injury or illness occurred during one of the student athlete’s four seasons in which he or she competed;
2) The injury or illness occurred during the first half of the season;
3) The student‐athlete par cipated in NOT more than three contests or 30 percent of the ins tu‐
on’s scheduled or completed contests or dates of compe on; and
4) Contemporaneous medical documenta on from a physician (e.g., medical doctor, surgeon) is submi ed to establish that the student‐athlete is unable to compete for the remainder of the sea‐
son. Documenta on from an individual other than a physician (e.g., chiropractor, physical therapist) only may be used to support the physician's documenta on.
The Conference or NCAA will then make a decision to grant or deny the studentathlete an additional year of eligibility.
