What is the National Sport Academy
Soccer Program?
An opportunity for committed soccer enthusiasts to combine athletics and academics by participating in the
National Sport Academy Soccer Program as a regular high school class each day at Central Memorial High
School. The National Sport Academy coaches work with athletes to help them understand exactly what it takes
to “achieve their dreams” by teaching what is required to live the lifestyle of a successful high performance
student athlete.
Who should consider the National Sport Academy Soccer Program?
The soccer program at Central Memorial High School is for competitive female and male soccer athletes in grades 10, 11 and 12 including
students designated to attend Central Memorial High School as well as those who live out of area. The goal is to have athletes on the pitch
with common skills that require similar time and space to execute technical and tactical skills. Typically, soccer athletes in the top 20-30% of
their age group are accepted into the National Sport Academy Soccer Program. Athletic assessments are part of the application process.

What are the components of the National Sport Academy Soccer Program?
Training activities are designed at the optimum time of the school year to compliment the various phases of the indoor and outdoor playing
seasons with your club team. National Sport Academy training sessions are scheduled Monday - Friday during the regular school day and
incude the following components:
Soccer Specific Training Sessions.
Strength & Conditioning/Cross Training.
Coaching & Leadership.
Coaching & Leadership is a National Sport Academy course designed to connect the student athlete’s experiences in sport
while highlighting qualities that prepare them for success. Coaching & Leadership projects showcase student athletes’
development, experiences and successes in sport and in life!

How do National Sport Academy student athletes earn high school credits?
The National Sport Academy provides competitive soccer athletes with the opportunity to high school credits for their sport training
(both their soccer club and the National Sport Academy) and Coaching & Leadership.
Grade 10 = 3 CTS credits; 5 PE credits
Grade 11 = 5 CTS credits; 5 PEcredits
Grade 12 = 5 CTS credits; 5 PE credits

What transportation is required to participate in the program?
Student athletes are required to get to the designated training facility if their training session is scheduled at the beginning
of the school day. If the training session takes place off site during the school day, the National Sport Academy provides
bus transportation to the training facility and back to Central Memorial High School. If the training session is scheduled at
the end of the day, student athletes are required to provide their own transportation home after the session.
How many athletes can be accepted in the National Sport
Academy Soccer Program?
An ideal situation is 8-12 student athletes per coach. Ensuring a common skill level amongst the athletes
is a key factor that will determine the number of players accepted into the National Sport Academy
Soccer Program.
The National Sport Academy was the first school based program in Calgary.
Over the past 20 years, hundreds of young men and women have
graduated from the National Sport Academy and have
gone on to play NCAA, CIS, ACAC and NAIA.?, ?
