Vision
The Male Empowerment Network is committed
to working collectively and responsibly to meet
the lifelong learning needs of our diverse male
student population. We value inclusiveness,
dignity, honor, respect, brotherhood, honesty,
integrity, innovation, learning, responsibility,
stewardship, excellence and community.
Founded in 1985, Paradise Valley Community College, one of the
ten Maricopa Community Colleges, offers transferable academic
courses as well as job-specific occupational training and many
additional services to its communities in the north, northeast and
northwest valley. The Union Hills campus is located just west of
SR51 at 18401 N. 32nd Street, Phoenix, AZ 85032. PVCC at
Black Mountain, a new education site serving the far north Valley,
opened in August 2009.

Mission
The Male Empowerment Network Program
was created to improve enrollment, retention
and degree completion/transfer rates of
male students of various backgrounds. M.E.N.
provides a multi-faceted approach that
promotes personal and professional
development, encourages academic
achievement and offers enrollment support.

Goals
To proactively connect male students with
academic and other resources during their
educational experience.
To enhance the college environment by
creating a culture of success where male
students develop a sense of belonging
and a connection to faculty, staff, other
students, and institutional opportunities.

M.E.N. offers choices and opportunities that
build community, foster diversity, and support
academic success through:
Purpose
M.E.N. joins male students from diverse
backgrounds into a cohesive group that
starts together and stays together on a path
to academic success, student engagement
and learning.
Group members are encouraged to enroll in
course sections that allow them to attend
classes together; have the same instructors
with integration of assignments and group
projects; and engage in study groups, peer
mentoring, and faculty and staff interaction.
Participants share collaborative learning, support
each other and form lasting relationships.
