Before College Application Week:

You will need to create a “My CFNC Account” at CFNC.org if you have not
already done so. Then, create or update your High School Planner (found online
under the orange Student Planner tab).
Review the information in your student profile and make sure all the data is up-todate. The fields completed in the High School Planner BEFORE College Application
Week will automatically appear in your applications. By checking this information
first, your application process will be easier and take less time.

Research Your College Options
Check out colleges and universities in College Fair on CFNC.org. You can see
pictures, watch movies, and gather detailed information about community colleges,
independent colleges and universities, and the University of North Carolina’s sixteen
campuses. The CFNC publication “Finding the Right College for You” offers helpful
guidelines. Also, use the checklist on the next page to keep track of college admission
requirements for the colleges which interest you.

Application Deadline
While you are researching colleges, find out what deadlines, if any, campuses have
for applications. Some schools will not accept applications after a certain date, so if
you have a favorite school, make sure to find out early in your search what the
application schedule is.

Application Fee
Many colleges require an application fee when you submit an online application. The
introduction page to the application will inform you of the fee amount, if any. Unless
you have a fee waiver from your school counselor, you need to be prepared to enter a
credit/debit card number or mail a check once you complete your online application.
If you think you may be eligible for an application fee waiver – contact your high
school counselor.

What if you are required to submit an admission essay or personal statement?
Bring your essay(s) with you preloaded on a disc or jump drive you can use to copy
into your online application. Make sure you have a hard-copy as well for back-up.
You will be able to upload your essay file or copy and paste it during the online
application session.

Read the Introduction Page (see the sample from UNC-Greensboro)
Take your time and read this information carefully. Every college has different
requirements and instructions for applicants. This page will offer helpful hints to
guide you through the process specific to each college and keep you informed every
step of the way. Keep track of what the colleges you want to apply to require on the
checklist on the next page. Don’t skip the Introduction Page!



After reading the instructions, please fill out this online application as thoroughly as possible. Your failure to
provide complete, accurate, and truthful information on this application will be grounds to deny or withdraw your
admission, or dismiss you after enrollment. When you are finished, click the 'SUBMIT' button on the left column
of any application screen. Print the application agreement statement that appears after you submit the
application. Return it with a nonrefundable application fee of $45 to the address below. Do not send cash.
Include your full legal name on the check. Applications received without the fee will not be processed.
Request that official SAT or ACT scores, including the writing component, be sent to UNCG directly from the
testing agency. Test scores are required of all freshman applicants, as well as transfer applicants with fewer
than 30 transferable semester hours.
Have official academic transcripts sent to UNCG. Enclosing official transcripts in sealed envelopes with the
application agreement statement will save considerable processing time.
Signature of a parent or legal guardian is required of applicants under 18 years of age.
Permanent resident immigrants must supply a notarized copy of their I-551/Permanent Resident Card.
Providing a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) is voluntary. However, if you intend to apply for or receive any
financial aid, including outside or institutional merit-based scholarship support, you must provide your SSN (if
you have one) so the University can process your application for aid and/or scholarship disbursement.
Providing your SSN will also facilitate matching test scores and transcripts with your UNCG applicant records.
Your SSN will only be used in accordance with state and federal law; it will not be used as your student
identification number.
Prospective music majors and minors: If you are interested in a major or minor in music, you are required to
