Renata Saraceno-Persello, Counsellor
Born on September 30, 1938 in Spilimbergo (Italy). Italian nationality. Widow of the Italian
Ambassador Salvatore Saraceno, Commander to the Merit of the SMOM.
Languages: bilingual French-Italian, Proficiency in English. Secondary and higher studies in
France (political economy)
Professional experiences in the fields of :
- Italian Consular services (1960-63) , social, cultural, administrative, relations with
Host Country authorities;
- Italian diplomatic service (1963-67) , drafting of statements, translations, protocol;
- In the various positions held by her Husband (1967-77, successively spokesman of
several Italian Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador in Tunisia, Director General
at the Farnesina), maintaining diplomatic and social relations, deploying cultural and
charitable activities;
- United Nations Organisation ( 1978-98, after her Husband’s death), as professional
international civil servant at the United Nations Office at Geneva . Information/Public
relations Officer in charge of special events, information programmes, promotional
campaigns, competitions, encounters, seminars …related to UN activities aimed at
hightening public- awareness. Development of a strategy of partnership namely with
the United Nations system, diplomatic , business and academic circles, NGO’s and
with Host Country Authorities.
Since 1999 member of the diplomatic service of the Order of Malta. Counsellor at the
Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations Office and other international
Organisations in Geneva. Decoration : Cross of “Pro Merito Melitensi “(2002).
