An “I Remember” poem

Use “And I Remember”, a poem by Afua Cooper, to write a poem which describes a place you
love and feel a part of.
1. Follow the directions carefully.
2. Use at least four types of sensuous imagery
3. Each stanza should have at least one simile, or metaphor or personification.
Stanza #1
And I remember
standing
(describe where you are standing)
(what do you see?)
Create a metaphor or simile within
visual imagery.
Use the word from line three in
two descriptive sentences
Stanza #2
And I remember
walking
(describe what point in your life)
where are you walking?
walking – first description of your walk
walking – second description of your walk
walking – third description of your walk
walking – fourth description of your walk
Stanza #3
And I remember
running
(describe where/what you are running toward)
four lines in which you describe the place you are running in or how you feel
Stanza #4
And I remember
breathing
(describe the smell of the whole place)
three lines to describe specific images
Stanza #5: finish your poem with a strong statement about the way in which you feel you own or
are owned by the place you describe.
