○ Simple accessible idea.
○ Maybe look into GLC Wiki or Dropbox (Casey to make and look into it)
New events
○ Ice skating followed by Bennigans (12/13) by GSA
○ CGSA Poster Session (Thurs 12/13 4-6 Lurie Atrium)
○ CSSA planning .. Chinese New Year gala (2/12/12)
○ CSSA host two contests to lead up to Gala
■Piano contest and Karaoke contest w/ small gifts (in Jan)
○ CSSA Dinner w/ Strangers in December 25 in Seabury
■20 students
■Free food
■Mingle w/ one another
○ QPGSA - weekly happy hour continuing (Allies)
■Joie Divine - Fantastic bar for good drinks 1/6/12 ($2 drinks)
○ QPGSA - Queer Salon Reading Group is continuing. Dean McBride will attend
an upcoming mtg
○ MGLC - Preparing Future Faculty series
■Professors talked about making the decision
○ MGLC - Preparing for Industry panel also
○ MGLC - Pentathlon
■Look into NU-SPLASH for conflicts

3. NAGPS Update (Yongli)

3 Fold mission
○ 1) Develop network
○ 2) Provide bridge from grads to admin (univ. level AND national level)
○ 3) Provide resources to Grad Organizations
Two day meeting
○ Morning sessions to spread word about what other orgs are doing and enable
networking
○ Have votes for motions to present to admin (i.e. White House and Congress and
such)
○
Also have Regional NAGPS meetings to provide a way to supply resources and
better collab.
○ New Board has been selected.
○ Christine McCary helped Yongli with lots of suggestions about meeting and such
○ Motions for upcoming year:
■Covered international students and domestic
■Discussed healthcare law … push for nationwide affordable care
■Covered career fairs
■Remove educational laws from bankruptcy. Debate on whether higher
interest rates may exist for student loans
■Hosting a national celebration of Graduate Students and Professional
students
■Support reducing Tax burden on Grad students
■How to support Career Services
■How to increase support to International offices
■Yongli attended several sessions
● Conflict Resolution sessions were limited
○ Maybe we can provide this topic presentation next year
● Feels they overlooked this aspect
● Duke U. made presentation to reduce gap between different parts
of grad school.
● Have grad organizations talk to depts and DGSs and their
respective Academic advisors
● MIT discussed how to combine all their social networks to engage
in more efficient dialogue (or read)
● North Texas uses podcasts to advertise their events
● Rice U. present about whole school-wide level event for a giant
multicultural event with different cultures expressed. Video on
YouTube
● Benefits for hosting conferences
○ Membership dues are waived for current and following
year
○ UC Boulder member said that hosting problem wasn’t too
bad. Largest problem was finding location and finding
partial funding
○ NAGPS partial funds for regional and national conferences
○ $120,000 annual budget for NAGPS

4. Student Protests

Recent incidents surrounding non-violent protest at UC Davis: student request for
clarification on rights to non-violent protest on campus (Yamil)
○ Express a letter to be written to the president about this issue.
○ Official statement from the administration is that they choose not to make a
statement to repeat the campus policy...i.e. don’t want to make a statement
○ Maybe a statement about a system on loitering and what is the policy on campus
and local involvement...where do the lines get drawn? how long can tents be
placed near the rock b4 they need to be removed?
○ GLC action moving forward? Open dialogue with increasing information to better
discuss this issue. Better understand their perspective.

○ Dates back to April 2010...
○ Will be reaching out to them coming up based on their article in The Protest
