JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: DEPUTY MANAGER
HOME: NORTHCROFT
LOCATION: BARROWS ROAD, CHEDDAR, SOMERSET. BS27 3BD
RESPONSIBLE TO: HOME MANAGER
PAY SCALE: £10.68 - £12.52 per hour (£20,826 - £24,414 per annum)
WORK PATTERN: FULL TIME
HOURS PER WEEK: 37.5
JOB PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
To ensure that the residents of Northcroft are cared for in accordance with the ethos,
policies and practices of Orchard Vale Trust and with current best practice as set out
in the Care Standards Act 2008 and other relevant legislation and codes of practice
To assist the home manager in providing leadership and support to the staff team to
meet the needs of residents and the changing demands of professional care delivery
To take overall management responsibility of the care home in the absence of the
home manager
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Deputy Manager will be responsible to the Home Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CARE
To implement Trust strategies, policies and practices for the care of its residents
To assess with the home manager, the needs of each individual resident and to devise
care plans, person-centered and end of life plans which meet their needs and
aspirations and which will enable them to achieve these goals
To provide care and support as necessary to include evening and weekend work
To ensure that residents are able to have a presence in both their local and wider
communities by providing them with opportunities for work, education and
recreational activities
To liaise with other relevant professionals when this is outside of your competencies
To enable residents to participate in all aspects of their daily lives and to assist them
to gain, develop and maintain the necessary skills and competencies to maximize their
potential
To ensure that each resident is treated with respect and that they are afforded privacy
and dignity both within the home and outside it
STAFFING
To work with the home manager in ensuring staff have clearly defined job
descriptions and that they understand their own and each other’s roles and
responsibilities and they receive appropriate training
To help ensure that the home has an effective and competent staff team with sufficient
numbers and complementary skills to meet the residents needs at all times
To support and supervise staff in all aspects of their work so that they are confident in
the delivery of the service provided to residents via supervision, appraisals, meetings,
training and written communication
Maintain morale and relationships within the team
FINANCE
To help implement Orchard Vale Trust’s financial strategies, policies and practices
To help the home manager agree an annual budget for the home that is cost effective
and meets the assessed needs of residents
To help manage the homes budget so that it meets the targets agreed with the home
manager and Chief Executive
To oversee the distribution of residents’ personal allowances and to ensure that
accurate records are kept of their income and expenditure
To help prepare cost analyses of the care provided to residents and to update these in
the light of changing needs of individuals and the group as a whole
ADMINISTRATION
To help ensure that information given in confidence by residents and/or their
representatives is handled and stored in accordance with the Trust’s written policies
and procedures and the Data Protection Act 1998
To help ensure that the homes records are accurately kept and updated in order to
comply with the Trust’s policies and practices and current legislation i.e. Care
Standards Act 2008, Health & Safety legislation etc.
To help ensure that the home’s information technology systems are used in
accordance with the Trust’s written policies and procedures and the Data Protection
Act 1998.
HOME ENVIRONMENT
To help ensure that the home provides a safe, clean, well-maintained, and homely
environment for the comfort of its residents
To help ensure that the residents’ personal space i.e. bedrooms and bathrooms suit
their needs and lifestyle and promote independence, choice and privacy
To help ensure that the communal spaces complement and supplement residents’
individual rooms
ORGANISATIONAL
To assist in the development of the aims, strategies, policies and practices of OVT
To help prepare reports and attend by invitation the various meetings convened by the
Trust to carry out its business
To assist in preparing reports and attend Families & Friends of OVT meetings as part
of the quality assurance policy of the Trust
To support fund raising events held by OVT in accordance with its function as a
charitable organization
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEWS
To participate in a 12 month appraisal (IPR) to clarify the purpose of the job, revise,
and review personal development plans
To undertake any training needs identified, either at work or with other agencies
To undertake any refresher courses necessary to maintain competence
PERSON SPECIFICATION
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE




QCF Level 5 (or equivalent) in Management of Care (preferred but not essential
as long as willing to work towards)
QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care
4/5 years’ experience of working with people with a learning disability
2/3 years’ experience at a supervisory/management level
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES









Knowledge of the Care Standards Act 2008, Care Act 2014 and other relevant
legislation
Knowledge of the underpinning values and theory informing current best practice
in care
Ability to assess residents needs and to devise care plans so that the home meets
their current and changing needs and aspirations
Ability to organize and manage staff in the effective delivery of the service
provided to residents
Ability to support, coach and train staff to achieve the competencies required by
them to fulfill their duties
Ability
to
communicate
effectively
with
the
residents,
their
families/representatives, staff and management of OVT
Ability to manage the home’s budget and plan future expenditure
Ability to keep clear, accurate and concise records
Ability to prepare and write reports
