I Samuel 3:3b-10, 19; I Corinthians 6:13c-15a,
17-20; John 1:35-42.
Opening their coffers was part of the prayer
of the Magi. Becoming a disciple of Jesus
Christ has its beginning in baptism, the
sacrament of faith. Faith joins individuals
and the community of Jesus' followers in
intimacy with their Lord and leads them to
live as His disciples. Stewardship is what we
do after we say we believe. How often do we
open our coffers to those around us who are
in need?

~ From the Pastor’s Pen ~
1) Our diocese is celebrating a Jubilee Year
this year. In 1887, Pope Leo XIII, erected the
present Belleville Diocese, made up of the
southernmost 28 counties of Illinois. We are
asked to join “Fanning the Flame.” Please sign
up ASAP on line at this site:
www.ftfdiobelle.org. I signed up last week.
The journey officially begins next week.
When you sign up, you will receive free
weekly email study sheets that will explore the
United States Catholic Catechism for Adults.
I encourage existing bible study groups to join
the journey. Meetings in the parish and school
can open with the topic of the week. The topic
of each week will be found in the bulletin or
online.
2) My bedroom/office and bathroom are
getting a make over.
3) Our parish will celebrate and pray for a
Stewardship of Treasure this month. Today is
Announcement Sunday. Next week, Witness
Talk; Commitment Sunday on January 22.
4) Did you notice that baby Jesus in the
outdoor crib has a manger now? Thanks,
Elmer Weiler.
Let us pray for: Patty Corcoran, Anna
‘Tweet’ Ginder, Alex Hinz, John Jones, Dawn
(Mrs. Jerry) Kocher, Jerry Kocher, Gerald
Kuenstler, Cathy McDowell, John McDowell,
Pam Runyon, Norbert Sheridan, MaryBeth
(Zuber) Sifferlen, Linda Volk and all those
serving in the military.

Prayer Breakfast: January 28 from 8am9:30am at the Country Griddle (formerly
Ty’s). This event arose out of our minister’s
Bible Study group on Wednesday mornings
at First Presbyterian Church. It is now a
Richland County Ministerial Association
event. Tickets will be sold in advance. We
are hoping for a 225 capacity crowd. The
theme is based on John 17: “….that they may
be one, I in them and you in me…” January
23 (Monday) is ticket deadline. Tickets are
$7 and are available from Fr. Jerry or the
church office.
Healing Blankets are intended to comfort
the recipients by knowing that they are being
prayed for, for whatever the case: illness,
grief, loss or loneliness. The blanket is a
reminder of the love and prayers of our parish
community. Our prayer that is ironed on to
the blanket says it all: “This blanket was
sewn with love and blessed. Know that you
are covered by the prayers and love of St.
Joseph’s members. In Jesus’ name we pray
that you will be healed.” With each blanket a
person receives includes a booklet called
"You are covered in Prayer" and a letter that
explains what the blanket is all about. To
request a blanket you may come to the Parish
Office. There is no cost, but a donation would
be accepted to help offset the expense of this
ministry.
Cash Bingo will be held on Sunday, January
15 at Holy Cross Parish Center, Wendelin from
1PM-4PM. Concessions will be available.
Public is welcome to attend. Sponsored by
Family Life Committee.

respectlife.catholicweb.com for information

years of the decision of Roe vs. Wade, Bishop

Cathedral of St. Peter, Blessed Sacrament
