Rights Movement Original Poetry
Now that we have discussed the Rights Movements in
class and read over Joy Kogawa’s What I remember of
the evacuation, you will create an original poem from
the perspective a person within one of the following
movements:





Women’s Rights
Native Rights
Worker’s Rights
Immigrant/Minority Rights
Gay and Lesbian Rights
Your poem must include:
 At least 2 historical allusions
 At least 3 additional literary devices (no your
historical allusions do not count!). They must be 3
different devices, you may not simply use
repetition 3 times.
Once you have completed your poem you will
annotate it. You must label each device and historical
allusion, clearly explaining the historical allusion and
how it relates to your topic as well the intended effect
behind the use of each device.
