POP NEWS
--POP's second section business meeting took place at the EUSA conference
in Montreal on May 17. This newsletter is a result of that meeting. We
also agreed to 1) sponsor a panel at the next EUSA conference in Los
Angeles in 2009, 2) update the website (http://www.eustudies.org/ --click
on Interest Sections), 3) look into the possibility of establishing a
dedicated listserv, and 4) look into the possibility of organizing a
virtual workshop. Please contact me if you have an interest in organizing
the panel, would like to add to the website (it is up-to-date at the
moment, but suggestions are welcome), would be willing to manage a
listserv, or want to work on a virtual workshop.
--POP has $400 in its account. We must spend the money by the next EUSA
meeting. The members present at the meeting thought the money could best
be spent on getting a good speaker to the POP-sponsored panel in Los
Angeles.
--I have attached POP's official bylaws. I was unaware that we had
official bylaws (fault my memory of the 2005 meeting!) until I checked
with EUSA afterwards. Thus, I failed to abide by the groups rules in
Montreal. Specifically I did not call for nominations for and selection of
a Chair-elect. At the moment, I am the only officer of the section. Would
anyone like to nominate themselves for the position of Chair-elect? I will
take nominations and send out an e-ballot to the membership. Note: the
chair-elect will take over as chair after the 2009 business meeting.
