Work to begin within one week of acceptance of estimate
7 Cathedral Close Chichester West Sussex PO18 2JN
18 July 2009
Dear Dave,
I got your estimate, thanks. It looks fine, but yesterday we discovered some water damage behind the
washing machine. It must have leaked, and the wall is damp with some mould stains. We’ve decided
to take advantage of a special offer from Hotpower and buy a new washing machine. The wall will
need to dry out before it can be installed. The old machine will be removed next Friday, so I wonder
if you could do the work before the new machine is delivered. I don’t want to be without a washing
machine for more than a week so could you fit us in during the week beginning 27 July? I think you
said you would finish another job by then.
By the way, my neighbour, Jean Wilson, told me she is thinking of having her bathroom redecorated.
I told her what a good job you did for us last year and I have given her your phone number. She will
probably give you a call soon to ask for an estimate.
Could you telephone to let me know what day you could start? Monday or Tuesday would be best for
us. If I’m out, you can leave a message on the answering machine. Thanks.

MEMORANDUM
To: All sales representatives
Re: Monthly reports
From: Bruce Lawson, Sales Manager
Date: Tuesday 27 March
_______________________________________________________________________________
This memo is to remind you to hand in your monthly reports at this Friday’s sales meeting – the last
of this fiscal year. You need to include estimates of increased sales, as well as details of the number
of customers you visited. You should also make sure that your purchases did not go over budget,
and be ready to provide original receipts for transportation expenses, indicating the purpose of each
trip. Please also tell me what you hope to achieve in the next fiscal year.
I apologize for the short notice. It’s been hectic here recently. If you have any questions, please
contact me or my secretary Barbara as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing you all and
receiving your reports on Friday at 9 o’clock sharp.
Thanks.
Bruce
Dear Bruce
I’m working on my sales report and have a few questions. I contacted John Warnock,
purchasing manager of Ogden Systems, a week ago and he agreed to a meeting, but,
unfortunately, his secretary just called to cancel today’s appointment because he has
a family emergency. I am now scheduled to meet with him on Monday. Can I include
them as customers visited this fiscal year? He sounded quite excited about our new
products, so I am hoping it will lead to new orders.
Also, I’m sorry I was absent from last Friday’s meeting. I couldn’t attend because I
had to take my car in for service and then I had to take the train. However, there
was an obstruction on the line so it got delayed. I couldn’t get a taxi outside the
station and had to walk six blocks before I found one. Then we got stuck in traffic, so
I arrived too late for the meeting. Can I include the train and taxi fare as
transportation expenses? I got a receipt from the taxi driver.
See you Friday.
