Course Outline
Mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse is being introduced to Ireland. This course aims to:
 provide clear information to counsellors and psychotherapists working with adult survivors of child
sexual abuse regarding their legal obligations to report retrospective allegations
 explore strategies to manage the impact on the therapeutic relationship.
The course is participative and experiential and includes presentations, small group work and role plays.
Extensive hand-outs are provided.

Discussing the provisions of the Criminal Justice (Withholding of Information on Offences
against Children and Vulnerable Adults) Act 2012, the Children First Bill 2014 and the legal
obligations created

Mandatory Reporting and the Therapeutic Relationship
Exploring how the impact of mandatory reporting on the therapeutic relationship with adults
who have been sexually abused as children can be facilitated positively using traumatic
transference and traumatic countertransference
