EXPERIENCE
WaveZero, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA
2000-2008
Founder/CTO (60 person start up) - Manufacturer of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and
electromagnetic interference (EMI) metal-polymer shields and coating solutions used for the
electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of medical and consumer electronic devices. Hired and organized
initial team, provided leadership and mentoring during challenging initial operations. After merger with
another company in 2004:
 Technology, engineering, manufacturing, and operations
 Patented over 12 innovative designs and processes for EMI shielding solutions and processes.
 Led design and engineering teams in creation of innovative EMI shielding designs.
 Increased customer satisfaction and product quality -- improved engineering hand-offs to
manufacturing, restructured operations, and implemented ISO-compliant quality system.
 Optimized PVD processes for increased throughput (2X improvement).
 Major medical clients included St. Jude Medical (Neuromodulation device), Zoll Medical
(Automated External Defribillator), and IBM Technology Collaboration Division.
Logical Services, Inc., Santa Clara, CA
1996-2000
Director, Business Development, Medical Products - Medical and electronic products design and
engineering firm featuring cross-functional teams and design-led product development and manufacturing
transitions requiring compliance with FDA, FCC, and related QSR and cGMP regulations.
 Business Development. Researched and targeted OEMs requiring design and manufacturing support
for medical, telecom, and wireless electronic devices. Clients included Vidamed, Stryker, Johnson &
Johnson, Guidant, Medoptics, and Beckton-Dickinson. Supported clients’ FDA documentation needs.



Product development. Led cross-functional teams comprised of industrial designers, mechanical,
electrical, and software engineers, manufacturing engineers, and customers’ marketing team members in
the development of medical, telecommunications, RF/wireless, and handheld devices. Pioneered
innovative concepts and process model for transitioning medical device design and engineering to
manufacturing.
Intellectual Property Development/R&D. Developed and led R&D program involving
transmyocardial revascularization (TMR) for Eclipse Surgical Technologies (NASDAQ: CGCP).
Paragon Solutions, Inc., Santa Clara, CA
1993-1997
Technology & Business Consultant - Provided technology and business development advice to early-stage
companies founded by entrepreneurs who wished to commercialize high-value-creation opportunities,
innovations, and/or technologies. Over ten successful start-ups. Representative engagements included:



Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment (SME) Start-Up, Massively Parallel Instruments, Inc.
(MPII). Identified “low energy ion implantation equipment” as most valuable application of client’s
new technology (ion processing unit) and found SME partner (Quester Technology, Inc.), which led to a
joint venture agreement with MPII involving almost $1 million of funding. Board member.
Fiber Optics Telecommunications Start-Up, Intelligent Fiber Optic Systems. Provided key advice
and proposal preparation assistance for Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) proposals
resulting in new awards ($250,000+) from Federal Government RD&E agencies.
Medical Laser Device Company, Reliant Technologies. Performed strategic analysis and created
business plan for technology-focused small business, resulting in new investment/ownership.
Anamet Laboratories, Inc., Hayward, CA
1987-1994
RD&E Division Manager & Principal Engineer - Provider of Federal Government RD&E services and
forensic engineering (failure analysis) including metallurgy, materials, and structures testing laboratories.


Created & Managed RD&E Division. Marketed to government program offices for R&D contracts
and commercial entities for contract engineering design and analysis.
 R&D. Prepared proposals and won 20 SBIR contracts totaling over $4 million. Principal
Investigator and program manager on 25 government and commercial R&D programs including
special/dark programs for the Air Force involving materials, system dynamics, and structures.
 Engineering. Performed analysis for commercial customers using NASTRAN and similar programs:
Stress, vibration, dynamic analysis, buckling, thermo-structural and nonlinear analysis, creep
prediction, crack propagation, sonic fatigue, and ASME Nuclear Pressure Vessel standards.
 Materials Evaluation & Testing. Evaluated material response to thermal, vibratory, shock,
environmental, and mechanical stresses by experimental and metallurgical means (e.g., SEM, ICP).
Manager of ASIAC. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. Created new approach for the
