PSALM 82

1. God stands in the council of heaven: in the midst of the gods the Lord gives judgment.

2. ‘How long will you judge unjustly: and favour the cause of the wicked?

3. ‘Defend the weak and the orphaned: maintain the cause of the afflicted and destitute.

4. ‘Rescue the weak and the needy: and save them from the hands of the wicked.

5. ‘You neither know nor understand, but go about in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

6. ‘I say then to you, "Gods you may be: and all of you offspring of the Most High,

7. ‘“but you shall die like mortals: and fall like any of the princes.

” ‘

8. Arise O God and judge the earth: for you shall take all nations as your possession.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;

As it was in the beginning, is now and shall be forever, Amen

NOTICES

Stones of Courage and Shells of Love: Last week Ellie invited us all to consider marking the journey of our personal and collective discipleship in Christ through a simple, prayerful action of placing stones and shells by our altar. This is a pilgrimage tradition of marking our way as we journey with God. The stones mark moments of courage in following Christ, in both little and big things (such as speaking to someone new for the first time, tackling areas in our lives where we feel convicted to grow, bringing our children to God’s family). These are ways of acknowledging within our selves and before God the often challenging reality of what it means to walk a path of faith in our world. The shells are thanksgivings for the love of God and each other that we experience. They help us to celebrate and see the goodness of God amongst us and within us. Stones of courage and shells of love: markers in our journey together as the people of God in this particular time and place. You are invited to do this privately at any time in the week, or you may like to encourage others by sharing publically during our notice time in the services.

The Living Wage Campaign: This month the Belmont Archdeaconry is hosting the travelling road show with Bishop Justin and Reverend Stephen King which explains, discusses and promotes the Living Wage Campaign. Thursday 22 nd August 7.30pm St

Paul’s Waiwhetu. A poster advertising this event is on our notice board. Please can I encourage us to car pool, so please talk to Ellie if you need transport.

What’s the Buzz at Sunday Clubs: This term the Sunday Clubs are all about mission.

This week we're looking at how 'every bit helps' with the story of Jesus praising the widow who gave her two small coins. We'll be making our own coin boxes to start collecting for the coin trail later in the term. (Age no limit to putting aside the shrapnel for a good cause!)

Kaupapa Maori Service : We will host the Rev’d Charles NoaNoa and the St Matthew’s

Taita-Pomare Kaupapa Maori congregation on the last Sunday in September (the 29 th ) here in St Alban’s at 5pm. Charles will be specifically inviting members of Kokiri Marae to join us for the service. So please do book the date in your diaries and continue to pray for our shared fellowship.

Taize: This month St Ronan’s hosts the service of Taize on Sunday August 25 th at 5pm.

Parish Catch Up: During the morning tea time after the 9.30am service next Sunday,

August 25 th , we will have a parish catch up where we can have a more extended time of mutual sharing about life in our parish and diocese.

Parish Forum on Same-Sex Relationships and the Church: Following the 9.30am service on September 8 th we will host the first of our parish forums to discuss together the questions raised within our wider church and society regarding the blessing of samesex unions. The forum will take place between 11.30-2pm. There will be two halves to this discussion, with a shared lunch (brought by participants) in-between. We will provide a separate activity time for children – if required - so that parents are able to attend if they would like. So, please inform Ellie if you require this provision for your children.

Ecumenical Coffee and Chat in our Community: Ellie, Sharron and Ed will be gathering at the Lemongrass Café on Wednesday the 28 th August at 2pm. An informal opportunity to get together, all are welcome and please do consider inviting others along who would appreciate the company and fellowship.

Ellie’s week: Ellie currently works 0.8 (FTE). Joe has now moved up to ‘big boy’ Kindi and so Ellie’s days off are now Friday afternoon, Saturday and Monday. The Parish

Office is open on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
