Fred Barnowsky Memorial Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is being offered through Polson Dollars for Scholars in memory of Fred Barnowsky,
a long-time resident of Northwest Montana . He was employed by the Forest Service and was one of the
early smoke-jumpers based out of Missoula.
Criteria for the receipt of the Fred Barnowsky Memorial Scholarship is as follows:

Applicant must be a Polson High School graduate currently attending any accredited twoyear, four-year, or vocational school.

Financial need will be considered as a factor in determining scholarship recipients
Applicants must include the following:
►Copy of FAFSA Student Aid Report or copy of parent and student’s last two 1040 forms
► Official transcript
► Current Photo
► A comprehensive resume.
► Three current letters of recommendation (to include one school
faculty/administrator and one community member, no relatives)
► Write an essay no longer than two pages – typed and double-spaced – on the following topic:
What is our role as stewards of the environment?
Applications must be returned to the SKC Career Center no later than 3:30 April 10, 2012 .
